Ain Shams University organized a comprehensive development convoy to serve the people of the Red Sea Governorate, specifically the cities of Shalateen, Abu Ramad, and Halayeb, under the patronage of Major General Staff Officer Amr Hanafi, Governor of the Red Sea, Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development.
The convoy, which ran from February 8th to 12th, was organized by the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Red Sea Governorate, the Southern Military Zone, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and the Ministry of Social Solidarity. Several university faculties participated in the events, including the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Agriculture, Mass Communication, and Business.

Prof. Ghada Farouk explained that the convoy benefited over ten thousand people across all its medical, awareness, and social components. She praised the diversity of activities included, particularly the awareness programs that targeted various segments of the beneficiary population in the area.
The medical axis included clinics in 13 different specialties, namely “Internal Medicine – Orthopedics – Dermatology – Pediatrics – Ear, Nose and Throat – Obstetrics and Gynecology – Neurology – Ophthalmology – Cardiology – Surgery – Dentistry – Laboratory Tests – Radiology,” in addition to providing free pharmaceutical services. The service was received by approximately 3,400 beneficiaries. 51 medical cases requiring higher intervention were referred to Ain Shams University Hospitals. In addition, various awareness and educational seminars were held to meet the needs of the people of the region. Veterinary awareness was provided to develop livestock, and field visits were conducted with a number of livestock breeders and traders, under the supervision of Dr. Mohamed Ali, a lecturer in Animal Breeding in the Animal Production Department at the Faculty of Agriculture. Participation in the media and community awareness initiative was also included, presented by Dr. Heba Sayed Zaki, a lecturer at the Faculty of Mass of Communication.

As part of efforts to enhance community awareness and promote positive behaviors, a number of seminars and awareness sessions were organized to raise health, social, and media awareness among citizens through simplified content that respects cultural sensitivities and relies on dialogue and discussion, with a focus on women, youth, and students.
The seminars addressed several topics, including promoting the positive use of social media, supporting families in facing technology-related challenges, promoting healthy habits, correcting misconceptions related to rumors and unsafe behaviors, and supporting the media’s role in building community awareness and promoting healthy practices during Ramadan.
Regarding the social assistance sector, 7,200 cartons of food aid, 2 tons of red meat, and 250 blankets were distributed to eligible residents of the area, with support from the Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, the Social Affairs Department in the Red Sea Governorate, Misr El Kheir Society, the Egyptian Food Bank, and the Faculty of Business.
The convoy was organized under the supervision of Prof. Hala Samir Sweid, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community and Environmental Affairs; Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals; Prof. Walaa Hamed, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy; and Prof. Mohamed Morsi, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Business, in coordination with Major General Hossam El-Sherbiny, Assistant Secretary of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development.
