The Faculty of Al-Alsun was established by Sheikh Rifa’a Al-Tahtawi in 1835 and was annexed to the university in 1973

The history of the Faculty of Al-Alsun is related to the history of the modern Egyptian renaissance. The School of Al-Alsun was established by Sheikh Rifa’a Rafi’ Al-Tahtawi in the year (1351 AH-1835 AD) to form a generation of intellectuals who would be a link between Arab and Western culture. Promote government administration in the positions entrusted to them.

When it was established, it was called the School of Translators, then changed its name to Al-Alsun School, and the first class graduated from Al-Alsun School in 1839 AD.

During its long history, which exceeded a century and a half, Al-Alsun School was subjected to closure in some periods, but it remained immortal in its impact, including generations raised, each generation renewing in the mind its memory, and rooting its history.

The “Al-Alsun School” was restored in 1951, and the study was in the evening, to give university students the opportunity to master foreign languages.

The July Revolution paid attention to the “Al-Alsun School” because it sensed the importance of studying languages, so in 1957 a decision was issued to establish the “Al-Alsun High School”, according to which it became one of the higher institutes and granted its graduates a bachelor’s degree. Al-Alsun became the only higher school in the East to teach languages in a specialized study, with special attention to translation.

On December 20, 1973, Republican Decree No. 1952 was issued to join Al-Alsun High School to Ain Shams University, as an independent faculty with a vision, mission, and strategic goals under the name of the Faculty of Al-Alsun.
