To Enhance International Research Leadership…The Faculty of Business Announces a Strategic Plan to Include “Ain Shams Business” Journals in the Global Scopus Database

In a qualitative leap aimed at placing Egyptian scientific research on the map of global impact, Prof. Farid Moharram Al-Garahy, Dean of the Faculty of Business at Ain Shams University, announced an ambitious strategic direction designed to elevate the ranking of the faculty’s scientific journals and qualify them for inclusion in the international Scopus database.

This step, approved by the Faculty Council during its session held on 21 January 2025, comes as part of Dean’s comprehensive vision to transform the faculty into a global hub of research excellence, ensuring that its research output and scholars gain access to the international business and academic communities worldwide.

Scopus… The Gold Standard of Research Quality

Prof. Farid Moharram emphasized that the move toward Scopus is not merely an administrative procedure, but rather a strategic pursuit of presence within the world’s largest and most influential database of abstracts and citation indexes.

He explained that Scopus is operated by Elsevier, the global Dutch publishing giant and a leader in scientific publishing, known for applying the most rigorous standards in journal selection. He noted that the inclusion of the faculty’s journals within this framework represents international recognition of the quality of their scholarly content and ensures that the faculty’s research becomes visible and accessible to researchers and institutions worldwide, thereby enhancing the global value of Egyptian intellectual output.

Strategic Advantages for Researchers and the Institution

The Dean further clarified that this developmental pathway primarily aims to increase citation rates of faculty members’ research, meaning a higher frequency of global scholars referencing the faculty’s studies as foundational sources. This, in turn, enhances the international impact factor of the faculty and positions its academics at the forefront of economic and administrative disciplines.

He added that this advancement directly supports Ain Shams University’s global rankings, as major international ranking systems such as QS and Times Higher Education rely heavily on the volume and quality of Scopus-indexed research as a key indicator of institutional strength.

A Roadmap for Advancing the Publishing Ecosystem

Prof. Farid Moharram pointed out that this initiative is grounded in a comprehensive roadmap for upgrading the faculty’s scientific journals and digitally modernizing them to align with Elsevier’s global publishing platforms.

He revealed the formation of specialized working groups tasked with reviewing peer-review standards and developing English-language publishing policies to ensure full compliance with international technical and academic requirements.
He stressed that the ultimate goal is to transform the Faculty’s journals into truly international periodicals, capable of attracting research submissions from scholars worldwide, thereby enriching the research environment within the Faculty and fostering cross-border academic interaction.

Investing in Knowledge as a Gateway to Progress

Concluding his remarks, Prof. Farid Moharram reaffirmed that investing in the development of scientific journals and linking them to international platforms is the true guarantee for building a sustainable academic reputation worthy of the Faculty of Commerce and Ain Shams University.

He emphasized that the faculty possesses distinguished intellectual capital capable of competing within the “global elite” of scientific research, stressing that this strategic step represents a fundamental pillar of Egypt’s Vision 2030, aimed at empowering scientific research to play an effective role in national economic development and the construction of a knowledge-based economy.
