The Postgraduate Studies and Research Sector Organizes a Workshop in Collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank

As part of enhancing the University’s role as a leading research hub and supporting its scientific research system, the Faculty of Women hosted an intensive workshop on Monday and Tuesday, November 17–18, 2025. The workshop was organized by the Postgraduate Studies and Research Sector at Ain Shams University and the Digital Library, in fruitful collaboration with the Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB).

The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty of Women, with supervision by Dr. Hany Shaker, Director of the University’s Digital Library.

On the first day, the workshop provided a comprehensive introduction to the vital roles of several global providers, including:

Clarivate, through Web of Science, offering tools for research performance analysis, citation tracking, and evaluation. Rather than providing content for reading, Clarivate delivers tools for analysis and assessment. Researchers can track citations, calculate journal impact factors, and evaluate institutional and individual research performance.

Emerald Insight, specialized in management, economics, and social sciences, provides a core source for researchers in these fields, offering a wide range of peer-reviewed journals, books, and practical case studies linking theory to practice.

JoVE, the pioneering visual scientific publishing platform and the world’s first peer-reviewed video journal, focuses on life sciences, medicine, and engineering. It provides high-quality videos detailing complex laboratory protocols, facilitating practical training and accurate replication of experiments.

Springer Nature, through SpringerLink, provides millions of scientific documents across multiple disciplines, making it a key source of knowledge. Its extensive multidisciplinary library covers science, technology, medicine, as well as humanities and social sciences, serving as a primary reference for e-books and journals.

On the second day, the workshop focused on five core knowledge areas designed to support researchers, each offering unique value for different specialist groups.

Taylor & Francis, one of the largest academic publishers globally, covering sciences, technology, medicine, and humanities, providing researchers access to the latest articles, journals, and reference books across disciplines.

Dar Al-Mansoura, the largest repository of specialized Arabic content, offering a comprehensive database of theses and peer-reviewed journals in Arabic, addressing the needs of researchers in language, literature, social, and human sciences, and serving as the most important source of scientific content in the region.

Britannica, recognized as the most reliable academic reference, providing fundamental knowledge and rigorous scientific reviews, widely used by researchers and students to build a solid foundational understanding before engaging in advanced studies.

Incision, a breakthrough in visual surgical training, provides high-quality training content for surgical procedures, accredited by international bodies, enhancing doctors’ and surgeons’ practical skills in operating rooms.

Elsevier Health, a leading source of medical and health information, providing reference books, scientific journals, and clinical decision support tools, making it an essential resource for professionals in medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and health sciences.

The workshop concluded with a session by Dr. Hany Shaker, Director of the Digital Library, titled “Employing Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research – Opportunities and Risks,” which received significant interest and appreciation from participating faculty members due to its growing importance in developing research methods and enhancing their effectiveness in universities and research centers.

Participants and speakers included Dr. Yara Ismail, Consultant at the Digital Libraries Unit of the Supreme Council of Universities; Dr. Amany Ali, Academic Solutions Consultant at JoVE; Mr. Walid Ali, Trainer at the Egyptian Knowledge Bank; Mr. Anas Ubaid, Customer Success Consultant at Clarivate; Ms. Sara Zaghloul, Customer Success Consultant at Springer Nature; Mr. Mohamed Adel; Mr. Ibrahim Hassan; Mr. Mohamed Abdullah; Ms. Omnia Shaaban; and Mr. Islam Nagi.
