The periodic meeting of the Board of Directors of the Networks and Information Technology Center at Ain Shams University

As part of Ain Shams University’s keenness to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and to enhance the digital transformation system within the university in line with the state’s vision for comprehensive digitization, the periodic meeting of the Board of Directors of the Networks and Information Technology Center was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research.

The meeting discussed several key topics aimed at developing and upgrading the university’s IT infrastructure and enhancing its technical efficiency. The Board reviewed proposed amendments to the organizational structure of the Networks and Information Technology Center, with the goal of adding new administrative units that would strengthen integration among the center’s departments and improve operational performance.

The meeting also reviewed plans to launch a comprehensive database for all university personnel, including faculty members, teaching assistants, students, and administrative staff, to serve as a unified reference that facilitates streamlined access to information.

In support of building digital capacities, the Board discussed a training plan for administrative staff at Ain Shams University on computer and digital transformation technologies through specialized courses designed to enhance employees’ efficiency and meet the demands of the digital age.

Additionally, the meeting explored the possibility of applying certain tools and techniques used by international academic publishing platforms such as Scopus to the university’s website, to improve its global ranking and support faculty promotion requirements.

The meeting also included discussions with Microsoft representatives to maximize the university’s benefit from Microsoft’s services, considering the agreement signed between Microsoft Egypt and the Ministry of Higher Education to provide digital solutions to Egyptian universities, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality electronic services.

The Board further reviewed the plan to implement a Single Sign-On (SSO) system across the university’s platforms to simplify access to electronic services while enhancing user experience, security, and flexibility.

Another major item discussed was the proposal to establish ASU HYPERMIND, a project designed to strengthen the university’s analytical and institutional intelligence capabilities. The discussion also covered the development of digital monitoring systems in cooperation with the Egyptian Universities Network, and the establishment of an IT Project Support Unit to provide technical consultations and support for the university’s digital transformation projects.

The meeting was attended by Prof. Hossam Fahim, Advisor to the University President for Information Technology and Digital Transformation; Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences; Prof. Mahmoud Faiz, Director of the Networks and Information Technology Center; Prof. Radwa Tawfik, Director of the Egyptian Universities Network; Prof. Mohamed El-Kharashy, Head of the Computer Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering; Major General Ahmed Lasheen, University Secretary-General; Eng. Amr El-Masry, Deputy General Manager for Education at Microsoft Egypt; Mr. Mohamed El-Khatib, Assistant University Secretary for Postgraduate Studies and Research;
and Mr. Mohamed El-Baz from the Engineering Consulting Center.

The meeting reaffirmed Ain Shams University’s commitment to continuing its journey of excellence and innovation in technology and digital transformation, strengthening its position as one of the leading universities locally and regionally.
