Ain Shams University Hosts the Meeting of the Interdisciplinary Studies Sector Committee

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and in the presence of Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Ain Shams University, both its public and private branches, hosted the seventh meeting of the Interdisciplinary Studies Sector Committee at the university’s i-HUB building. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Essam Khamis Ibrahim, Committee President, with Prof. Mohamed Abdel Karim Salheen, Vice President of Ain Shams Private University for Academic Affairs, serving as Committee Secretary.

At the outset of the meeting, Prof. Amany Osama Kamel welcomed the committee members, expressing her delight in hosting the meeting at Ain Shams University. She emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting interdisciplinary studies, highlighting their strategic role in advancing education and scientific research, and in preparing graduates capable of creativity and adapting to the changing demands of the labor market.

         
   
         

She added that Ain Shams University is steadily working to establish the concept of interdisciplinary studies and expand their applications across various fields, considering them a fundamental pillar for achieving academic and research excellence. She noted that the university aims to foster a flexible research environment that facilitates collaboration between disciplines and supports innovation in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals.

Prof. Essam Khamis, Committee President, congratulated members on the start of the new academic year, wishing it to be filled with achievements and excellence. He also expressed his sincere thanks to Dr. Amany Osama Kamel and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Karim Salehin for their kind invitation and warm reception.

He expressed the committee’s pride in Prof. Khaled Al-Anani for being appointed as Director-General of UNESCO, describing it as a proud achievement for Egypt and the Arab world. He also congratulated Dr. Sherine Helmy for being recognized among the strongest healthcare leaders in the Middle East for 2025, wishing him continued success.

Additionally, he congratulated Prof. Ghada Abdel Bari on her appointment as Advisor to the President of Cairo University for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, in recognition of her distinguished scientific contributions.The meeting was attended by a distinguished group of professors, scholars, and experts representing faculties from public and private universities as well as industry institutions. Discussions focused on ways to develop the interdisciplinary studies sector and enhance integration between disciplines, supporting innovation and applied scientific research in higher education institutions.

In his remarks, Prof. Mohamed Abdel Karim Salheen, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Ain Shams Private University and Committee Secretary, welcomed the members and highlighted that hosting this scientific event aligns with the university’s support for the state’s efforts to strengthen cooperation between public and private universities and build an advanced education system based on creativity and applied knowledge.

He emphasized that interdisciplinary studies represent the future of university education, as they foster integration between disciplines and open new horizons for research and innovation. He noted that Ain Shams Private University, through its modern academic programs, seeks to prepare graduates with critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills, capable of competing in regional and international labor markets.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee reviewed the interdisciplinary regulations submitted by public and private universities and proposed several recommendations aimed at supporting and developing the interdisciplinary studies framework in Egyptian universities, ahead of submitting them to the relevant authorities for official approval.
