Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club (ICLUB) at the Faculty of Mass Communication organized a welcoming ceremony for first-year students. The event was held under the supervision of Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Salwa Suleiman, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs.
The day’s activities began with an entertainment segment that included interactive games, motivational message writing, and commemorative photography. The segment was organized under the supervision of Dr. Nada Mounir, Director of the Innovation Unit at the Faculty of Mass Communication, Mr. Yehia Ahmed, Teaching Assistant in the Media Production Department, and Ms. Shaimaa Hassan, from the Youth Welfare Department.
The ceremony was graced by the participation of several media professionals and distinguished alumni from the Department of Communication and Media Sciences at Ain Shams University, who currently work across various media platforms. Among the notable guests were: Mr. Hani Farouk, Managing Editor at Al-Ahram; Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Al-Ahram; Ms. Asmaa Ibrahim Hanafy, Director at Nile Specialized Channels, National Media Authority; Ms. Dareen Farghaly, Head of Television at Al-Watan and Executive Producer of "Set Setat" on DMC; and Ms. Amal Nouman, News Anchor and Program Presenter at the National Media Authority.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Heba Shaheen, who began her speech by congratulating the audience on the 52nd anniversary of the glorious October Victory. She warmly welcomed the guest media professionals and praised their accomplishments in the field of professional journalism and broadcasting. She also expressed her appreciation for their presence and willingness to share their rich, real-world experience in various media domains with the students.
Prof. Salwa Suleiman, in her address, extended her gratitude to all faculty members, teaching assistants, and administrative staff for their ongoing efforts in supporting the educational process. She also emphasized the importance of student engagement in extracurricular activities as a path to skill-building and personal development.
Mr. Hani Farouk, Managing Editor at Al-Ahram, expressed his happiness to be part of the student welcome event. He shared that he is currently pursuing postgraduate studies at the Department of Communication and Media Sciences and encouraged students to stay committed to their goals. He likened the media professional to a soldier, whose weapon is the "Power of the Word", a responsibility every journalist must carry to defend the nation through truth.
Mr. Ahmed Hassan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief at Al-Ahram, voiced his pride in being an alumnus of the department. He urged students to be knowledge-seekers, to define their ambitions, develop their skills, and to boldly present fresh ideas. He encouraged them to view their university journey as a formative period for preparing to enter the job market.
Ms. Asmaa Hanafy highlighted the importance of originality and innovation in media work and urged students to gain hands-on experience across different media disciplines.
Ms. Dareen Farghaly shared her personal journey from being a student in the Communication and Media Sciences department to falling in love with the field of journalism, describing it as a "magical department."
Ms. Amal Nouman emphasized that what distinguishes media professionals is their talent, creativity, and passion for the field. She stressed the importance of adapting to the digital media environment and engaging with it effectively.
The event also featured introductory videos highlighting the activities of the faculty, ICLUB, and the Student Union. A detailed explanation of the faculty’s academic departments was presented, along with an interactive quiz segment hosted by students Habiba Tharwat and Maryam Essam. Additionally, a lighthearted segment titled "Fadfadah" (Let’s Talk) was presented by Doaa Hamouda, a poetry reading by Noura Magdy, and a "University Talk" session led by Fidaa El-Debsy.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Prof. Heba Shaheen honored the guest media professionals, faculty members, and outstanding students. She also recognized the students who participated in the “Media Mission” summer camp, the theater team who won first place in the Grand Festival for Theatrical Production, and the winners of the photography competition.
