The 10th Annual Scientific Conference of the Department of Diagnostic, Interventional, and Molecular Imaging at the Faculty of Medicine

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board, and Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, inaugurated the 10th Annual Scientific Conference of the Department of Diagnostic, Interventional, and Molecular Imaging at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University. The event was attended by Prof. Yassin El Shazly, Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences.

Prof. Ali Al-Anwar began his speech by extending his thanks to Prof. Mohamed Abou El-Hoda, Conference President, Prof. Amany Rashad, Head of the Department, and the organizing committee. He expressed his pleasure in participating in the conference and praised the department’s significant contributions, noting that it has become a central pillar in diagnosis and treatment after 25 years of continuous development.

He also praised the sincere efforts of the department’s faculty and staff, emphasizing that interventional radiology has become a fundamental pillar in university hospitals.

Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of University Hospitals, expressed his appreciation for the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, commending the interventional radiology units, which he described as fully integrated entities that have become indispensable across all university hospitals.

He extended his gratitude to Dr. Mohamed Abou El-Hoda and to the technical committees for their vital role in equipping the department, and other departments within Ain Shams University Hospitals, with the latest medical imaging and interventional radiology equipment. He also gave special thanks to Prof. Dr. Ahmed Samir, Professor of Diagnostic Radiology.

Prof. Tarek Youssef further acknowledged the efforts of Prof. Aya Yassin, Executive Director of the Artificial Intelligence Center, highlighting the growing role of AI across all medical specialties, particularly interventional radiology, which is contributing to an unprecedented advancement in the quality of healthcare services.

Prof. Mohamed Abou El-Hoda, Conference President, emphasized the importance of continuing to develop the Radiology Department and ensuring the provision of state-of-the-art equipment across all units and sections, positively impacting patient care and diagnostic accuracy.

In her remarks, Prof. Amany Rashad, Head of the Department, welcomed the conference guests and participants, expressing her pride in leading the department during such a distinguished scientific event. She affirmed that the success achieved by the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology is the result of the collective efforts of faculty members, doctors, and technicians who work quietly and sincerely without expecting recognition.

She added: “We are working to strengthen the department's status as a scientific and research beacon capable of keeping pace with global advancements, while continuing to support medical education and training in ways that serve both patients and society at large.”

During the opening session, Prof. Ahmed Samir presented the achievements of the Equipment Committee over the past year, while Prof. Ahmed Othman reviewed the accomplishments of the department’s various units in education, community service, and patient care during the previous year.

The scientific sessions included discussions on a variety of topics. Prof. Dr. Yassin El Shazly, Dean of the Faculty of Law, delivered a lecture on Medical Liability Law and Patient Safety. Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, addressed the importance of large language models in supporting physicians, managing medical records, and enhancing medical education. She stressed the need for clear regulations to ensure data privacy and confidentiality.

She also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in accelerating diagnostic processes and analyzing medical images such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans. She called for greater interdisciplinary collaboration to support scientific research and proposed the creation of a platform for exchanging research ideas and addressing medical challenges through AI and large language models.

The conference activities continued over two days, organized and coordinated by Prof. Gamal Niazy in collaboration with the organizing committee and under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Mohamed Abou El-Hoda.

On the sidelines of the conference, in cooperation with the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in the Medical Sector, a dedicated AI session was held. It featured several lectures and 14 specialized workshops covering various disciplines related to radiology and artificial intelligence. The workshops ran simultaneously over the two days across three halls, with a strong focus on the expanding applications of AI in diagnostic and interventional radiology as well as molecular imaging and medical diagnostics.

The event was attended by professors from the department and other specialties, led by Prof. Ahmed El-Dorry, pioneer of interventional radiology in Egypt and the "godfather" of all interventional radiologists at Ain Shams University, and Prof. Aya Yassin, Director of the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, along with a distinguished group of faculty members from the Faculties of Medicine and Computer & Information Sciences.
