A presidential decree of appointing Prof. Yassin El-Shazly as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University

His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree appointing Professor Yassin Mohamed Tharwat El-Shazly as Dean of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University.

It is worth noting that Professor Yassin El-Shazly is a professor of commercial and maritime law at the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University and the former Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research. He holds a PhD in commercial law from the Faculty of Law at Jean Moulin Lyon University in France. He also holds a Master's degree in law from Ain Shams University and Lyon University in France, a Master's degree in political science from Lyon University in France, a diploma in comparative law (American law - English law) from Lyon University, and a Bachelor's degree in law from Ain Shams University, he is a graduate of Saint George's Language Schools.

His Excellency has extensive academic experience at several Arab and foreign universities, particularly the American University in Cairo (College of Business Administration), Qatar University, Sultan Qaboos University, the University of Lyon (France), the University of Bordeaux (France), Nile International University, Silesia University (Egypt), the College of International Transport and Logistics at the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport, the Institute of Financial Services, the Qatar Olympic Academy, and the Oman Olympic Academy.

Professionally, Professor Dr. El-Shazly is a lawyer at the Egyptian Court of Cassation, the Supreme Administrative Court, and the Constitutional Court. He has professional experience in drafting legislation, regulations, policies, and contracts of various types, particularly international trade contracts, corporate contracts, commercial agencies, settlement agreements, and mergers and acquisitions.

Dr. El Shazly has also been appointed as an arbitrator in a number of national and international arbitration cases. He is a member of the Investor Dispute Settlement Center of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and an accredited arbitrator at the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC), and the Qatar International Centre for Conciliation and Arbitration (QICCA). He has also served as an expert witness in numerous disputes before the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris (ICC) and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA). He has also been nominated as an expert before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes of the World Bank Group (ICSID).

Dr. El Shazly was also assigned to work as a legal advisor to the Chairman of the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority (Egypt) and as a legal expert at the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Egypt). He also worked as a legal expert for international projects granted by the African Union and the European Union, and participated as an expert in drafting several commercial legislations in the Gulf countries. He is also a certified lecturer with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Egyptian Trainers Institute (EIOD).

Dr. El Shazly began his career in the judiciary, where he was appointed a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Supreme Administrative Court of the Egyptian State Council and an assistant to the Egyptian Public Prosecution.

With regard to academic research, Professor El Shazly has published more than fifty peer-reviewed research papers in various languages ​​(Arabic, English, and French) in local and international journals, particularly in the fields of corporate law, investment law, sports law, commercial arbitration, capital market law, advertising and publicity, communications and information law, e-commerce, air and maritime transport law, intellectual property law, and alternative dispute resolution.

He has also authored several books on commercial law, corporate law, Egyptian commercial papers and transactions law, and arbitration law. Dr. El Shazly received the first prize for human rights research in the city of Lyon in 2007 and the Best Author Award for 2017 from the international LexisNexis Foundation. He is also a member of the International Law Association and the Arab Society of Commercial and Maritime Law. He also joined the African Academy of Arbitration’s Young Arbitrators Training Program in 2020 as an academic supervisor.
