The Faculty of Medicine celebrates the World Diabetes Day with various activities

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, in cooperation with the Department of Community and Environmental Medicine, Industrial Medicine, and the 5th Department of Endocrinology, organized a celebration on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Ali Al-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospitals, and under the supervision of Prof. Hala Suwaid, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, Prof. Eman Bakr, Head of the Department of Community, Environmental, and Industrial Medicine, and Prof. Salwa Sedek, Head of the 5th Department of Internal Medicine (Endocrinology)

         
   
         

The events began with a distinctive sporting activity, where participants walked in Arab Al-Mohammadi Park with the participation of a large number of teaching staff members, students and workers.

In her speech during the celebration, Prof. Hala Suwaid welcomed the attendance, noting that the aim of the celebration is to raise public awareness about diabetes. In the same context, the Head of Internal Medicine (and Endocrinology), Prof. Salwa Sedek, gave a lecture on type 1 and 2 diabetes and the type that appears during pregnancy, and how to live with it and avoid its complications, in addition to the tests necessary to diagnose the disease and means of preventing it, noting that taking some medications without consultation may lead to diabetes.

         
   
         

Prof. Nanis Ismail, Professor of Public Health, gave a lecture on “Physical Activity and Type 2 Diabetes,” where she explained how to control diabetes levels by adopting three main factors: nutrition, exercise, and medication.

Dr. Maha Al-Jaafari stressed the importance of integrating the preventive part, represented by the public health department, and the curative part, represented by the clinical departments, in various health awareness campaigns.

After the end of the activities, random blood sugar, blood fat levels, cumulative blood sugar, blood pressure, and body mass were measured. The susceptibility to diabetes was revealed to all attendees, and awareness leaflets about the disease were distributed.
