The Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector monitors the needs of the village of “Awlad Yahya” in Sohag Governorate

Under the patronage of Prof. Ghada Farouk, Acting President of Ain Shams University and Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Al-Qadi, Deputy Sohag Governorate, Prof. Jihan Ragab, Advisor to the Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Hala Sweid, Vice President of the Faculty of Medicine for Affairs Community service and environmental development, and representatives from the Ministry of Planning, the Sawiris Foundation for Community Development, and the Life Makers Foundation, and the University’s Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs Sector made a field visit to the village of “Awlad Yahya” in Sohag Governorate, which is one of the neediest villages within the “Decent Life” initiative. The presidential initiatives launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, “A Decent Life” came as a turning point for the better... education, health, drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and roads.

The visit included a meeting with the Deputy Governor of Sohag and the leaders of the Decent Life Unit in the governorate, followed by a field visit to the village, during which the delegation inspected a number of homes for families in need, and the development projects being implemented within the “Decent Life” project. The people were interviewed and discussed the problems and challenges they face in the village to monitor their needs and to provide them with urgent interventions.

Prof. Jihan Rajab stated that a consultation session was held with the village people and officials to learn about their views on the projects being implemented and the challenges facing the citizens in the village. The people expressed their great happiness that their village was chosen to implement the project. Dr. Jihan also stressed the readiness of all the capabilities of the various colleges at the university to support the village of Awlad Yahya by providing medical convoys, raising health and environmental awareness, and integrating social groups, especially children with special needs. Prof. Hala Sweid also pointed out the targeted medical services, including performing surgical operations, providing prosthetic limbs, and the possibility of implementing a virtual hospital for urgent health cases.

The visiting delegation from Ain Shams University, the Ministry of Planning, the Sawiris Foundation for Community Development, and the Life Makers Foundation agreed on the axes of developing the initiative.

The program to raise the efficiency of village homes includes several levels:

- Complete rehabilitation of the house

- Furnishing homes

- Trellis of house roofs

- Increasing the efficiency of sanitation in homes

- Developing internal drinking water networks at home

- Developing urgent health services, through:

- Organizing several general and specialized medical convoys to provide urgent health support to village residents.

- Performing surgical operations for the most deserving groups in the village.

- Delivering prosthetic devices and glasses to people with special needs

- Organizing health awareness campaigns about the most common harmful unhealthy habits among the residents of the targeted villages.
