On the sidelines of the Climate Summit... the Faculty of Law participate in the Climate Law and Governance Day 2022 in partnership with the University of Cambridge and the Climate Law Initiative

The Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, participated in organizing the Climate Law and Governance Day 2022 in partnership with the University of Cambridge and the Climate Law and Governance Initiative, on the sidelines of the Climate Summit held in Sharm El Sheikh.

Twenty working sessions were held, including four plenary sessions and 16 sessions in parallel, with the participation of more than 100 experts from legal, academic and diplomatic institutions from all over the world, during which more than 1,500 followers and participants attended the most important interactive legal event on the sidelines of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change COP27.

The inaugural session started at half past eight in the morning, during which an opening speech was delivered on behalf of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Meteini, President of Ain Shams University, and today's activities continued until six in the evening, Cairo time.

For the first time since the establishment of Climate Law and Governance Day, a full session was held under the supervision and participation of the Faculty of Law at Ain Shams University in Arabic, with English translation provided to foreign participants.

The session opened with a speech from Prof. Dr. Muhammad Safi, Dean of the College, who expressed his happiness with the college’s participation in this event. The session was moderated by Dr. Ahmed Fathi Khalifa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the College, and Prof. Yassin El-Shazly, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Hajar Kaldish, Chair of the International Law Commission of the African Union, Legal Adviser Basant Abdel Meguid for the International Committee of the Red Cross, Counselor Adel Maged, Vice President of the Egyptian Court of Cassation, and Mr. Karim Mahrous, President of the Intellectual and Environmental Development Association.

The closing session witnessed a speech by a representative of Ain Shams University before the distribution of the prizes for the legal writing competition that began last July, in which Ain Shams University contributed to the creation of a section dedicated to research in Arabic, bearing in mind that the languages ​​of the competition were limited to English, French and Spanish.

Participants from more than five Arab countries won bronze, silver, gold and platinum prizes.
