The Anti-Violence and Harassment Unit at Ain Shams University celebrates the Women's Month

The Anti-Violence and Harassment Against Women Unit at Ain Shams University hosted the United Nations Population Office, as part of its preparation of a documentary and reportage on the unit, coinciding with the celebration of the month of women (March), in which the contributions of women to society are celebrated annually all over the world.

Prof. Dr. Hind Al-Hilali, Executive Director and General Coordinator of the Unit, explained that the Anti-Violence and Harassment Unit, which was established five years ago at Ain Shams University, is the first of its kind in Egyptian universities.

She added that the documentary and reportage that will be prepared will deal with the role of the unit inside and outside the university community and its mechanism of working in terms of monitoring cases of violence and harassment, methods of receiving complaints and means of dealing with them by the organizing committee of the Anti-Violence and Harassment Unit headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University, in addition to addressing the awareness role and courses that the unit offers outside and inside the university, such as self-defense training courses and workshops that support girls psychologically.

The documentary and reportage will also cover the university's support, the National Council for Women and the United Nations Fund for Unity.

She added that during the month of March, the unit will participate in a number of radio and television meetings to talk about the unit’s role in monitoring and combating all forms of harassment and violence within the university and the role of university leaders in supporting the unit, headed by Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, University President, Prof. Dr. Abdel-Fattah Saud, Vice President for University Affairs Education and students, Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Dr. Hesham Temraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development.

Professor Dr. Hind Al-Hilali confirmed that the unit, since its inception, annually celebrates the month of women with a number of activities. It started on March 8th with awareness campaigns, coinciding with a series of seminars. A symposium is scheduled to be held at the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research entitled "Happy on your Eid day" that will include a psychological prescription that helps women to reach happiness, during which it will host the head of the Psychology Department at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, who will talk about the psychological aspect of achieving happiness. The symposium will also include proper nutrition that improves the mood, which will be explained by the therapeutic nutrition expert, Dr. Reham Safwat.

The unit will also launch on March 21st, corresponding to Mother’s Day, an awareness campaign in Campus A of the Faculty of Arts, accompanied by a seminar under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of the University and Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof. Dr. Mostafa Mortada, Dean of the Faculty and Prof. Dr. Rasha Al-Didi, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The activities of celebrating the Women's Month conclude with the women's celebration of Ain Shams University, during which the Anti-Violence and Harassment Against Women Unit will host a number of public figures who have influenced the Egyptian society in women's issues and supported her during her career, including ministers, members of the People's Assembly, members of civil society, and members of the National Council for Women.
