Ain Shams University Consolidates Its Global Standing with Unprecedented Advances in International Rankings in 2025

Ain Shams University has continued to consolidate its academic standing regionally and internationally after achieving a series of remarkable accomplishments across major global rankings in 2025. These include QS, Shanghai (ARWU), Times Higher Education (THE), GreenMetric, and the Arab University Rankings—an achievement that reflects a comprehensive institutional transformation driven by a clear scientific strategy and the integration of research excellence, quality education, sustainability, and international engagement, reaffirming the University’s position among the world’s leading academic institutions.

Global Advancement in QS World University Rankings 2025

The QS World University Rankings 2025 announced that Ain Shams University advanced 50 positions globally, rising to 542nd worldwide, up from 592nd in 2024, among more than 2,000 universities worldwide. This marks the largest single-edition advancement among Egyptian universities, driven by improvements across key indicators, including academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (15%), faculty-to-student ratio (10%), citations per faculty member (20%), international students (5%), international faculty (5%), in addition to newly introduced indicators for employment outcomes (5%) and sustainability (5%).

University President Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen emphasized the University’s commitment to continuous improvement across international rankings through a strategy focused on increasing high-impact international publications, providing financial support to researchers, enhancing research quality, expanding international student enrollment, building global partnerships, and graduating highly competitive, globally capable alumni.

Comprehensive Presence in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025

For the first time, Ain Shams University appeared across all five broad subject areas in the QS Subject Rankings, including its debut in Arts and Humanities, and was listed in 18 individual disciplines, among them:

Sustained Excellence in Shanghai Ranking (ARWU) 2025

For the third consecutive year, Ain Shams University maintained its position among the top 700 universities globally in the Shanghai Ranking (ARWU) 2025, ranked within the 601–700 band among 2,500 evaluated institutions.

According to ARWU data, the University achieved the highest publication rate in Nature and Science among Egyptian universities, a critical indicator within the ranking methodology, which assesses six core criteria related to Nobel laureates, highly cited researchers, publications in top journals, indexed research output, and per-capita academic performance.

Major Leap in Times Higher Education World Rankings 2026

In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, Ain Shams University advanced 200 global positions, moving from the 1001–1200 band to 801–1000.

The ranking is based on 17 performance indicators across five core areas, and the University’s progress reflects notable improvements in teaching quality, internationalization, and the integration of research with industry and society.

Environmental Achievement in GreenMetric Ranking 2025

In sustainability, the University achieved a qualitative leap by advancing from the top 24% globally in 2024 to the top 21% in 2025, ranking 365th worldwide while maintaining 5th place nationally, despite an increase in participating universities to 1,745 institutions globally. Key areas of progress included water conservation, solid waste management, and sustainable infrastructure, demonstrating the University’s success in embedding sustainability principles across its academic and administrative policies.

Maintaining a Top 10 Position Among Arab Universities

Regionally, Ain Shams University continued to rank among the Top 10 Arab Universities in the Arab University Rankings 2025 for the third consecutive year, out of 285 universities from 20 Arab countries, including 54 Egyptian universities. The ranking evaluates education, research, innovation, leadership, international cooperation, and community engagement.

Times Higher Education Arab Ranking: 16-Position Advancement

Times Higher Education also announced that Ain Shams University advanced 16 positions in the THE Arab University Rankings, rising from 33rd in 2023 to 16th, placing third nationally and sixteenth regionally.

The evaluation covered 238 institutions from 16 Arab countries and applied the same five pillars as the global ranking, including research, teaching, societal impact, international outlook, and industry collaboration.

The University was honored at an official ceremony organized by Times Higher Education, where the award was received on behalf of the University President by Dr. Ahmed El-Banna, Director of the International Rankings Administration.

These achievements align with Ain Shams University’s strategic vision to evolve into a third- and fourth-generation university, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, direct research toward national priorities and sustainable development, and prepare graduates capable of global competitiveness.
