The Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences Students Win First Place at the 2026 University Innovation Summit with a Smart Project to Enhance Transportation Safety and Vehicle Fleet Management

In a new achievement added to the distinguished record of students at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, Ain Shams University, the “CertusDrive” graduation project team won first place in the final competition held as part of the University Innovation Summit ’26, within the “My Project… My Start” initiative organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The event was held on September 23, 2026, in Zewail City.

The achievement came under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Neven Assem, Executive Director of the University’s Innovation and Training Sector, and under the supervision of Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University.

The summit witnessed broad participation from students across Egyptian universities, with more than 100 graduation projects from 30 universities and 24 schools, and over 1,000 students taking part. Participating projects underwent several stages of presentation, evaluation, and judging before a panel of experts and specialists. The competition was held within the framework of the technology alliances supported by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology through the “My Project… My Start” program. CertusDrive’s first-place win crowned the team’s sustained efforts in design, development, and innovation, transforming the project from an academic concept into an integrated, applicable technological system.

The CertusDrive team, from the Information Systems Program at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences, Ain Shams University, developed an intelligent system designed to enhance heavy-vehicle fleet management, truck routing, and driver safety on the roads by employing a range of advanced technologies in artificial intelligence, computer vision, smart mapping, and vehicle tracking.

The project team included students Esraa Saeed Abdel Monsef, Salma Ashraf Fouda, Hadeer Ramadan, Toka Karam Abdel Meguid, Seham Sayed, and Mona Saad, under the supervision of Dr. Mona Abdel Azim, Lecturer at the Department of Information Systems, and Teaching Assistant Engy Abdallah of the Department of Information Systems.

The project provides an integrated solution to several challenges associated with heavy-vehicle fleet management and driving safety through the design and development of a set of interconnected components and systems, most notably:

1- An intelligent driver monitoring system using artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies to detect drowsiness and distraction while driving and issue appropriate alerts.

2- An integrated vehicle fleet management system that enables organized monitoring of vehicles, drivers, trips, and overall fleet status.

3- A vehicle tracking and trip management system using GPS and smart mapping technologies, while taking into account the specific characteristics and requirements of heavy vehicles.

4- An intelligent management dashboard that enables fleet managers to monitor vehicles, trips, and drivers and access fleet data in a clear and organized manner.

5- An integrated technological ecosystem that combines user applications, management systems, databases, mapping services, and artificial intelligence components within a single comprehensive system.

Work on the project did not end with the completion of graduation requirements. The team continued to develop CertusDrive and participate in several competitions and events, providing students with opportunities to present their idea before judging panels and specialists, benefit from technical feedback, and continuously refine the project and improve its components.

These efforts culminated in winning first place at the University Innovation Summit ’26, amid extensive participation by graduation projects and students from various Egyptian universities.

The project also attracted media attention, with team members participating in an interview with MBC Masr to discuss the project, its concept, and the role of artificial intelligence technologies in developing innovative technological solutions for the transportation and fleet management sector.

This achievement reflects the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences at Ain Shams University’s commitment to supporting its students, encouraging innovation and creativity, and linking academic study with practical applications and the needs of society and the labor market, enabling students to develop their ideas and transform them into applicable technological projects and solutions.
