Ministerial Decree Renews Appointment of Prof. Tarek Youssef as Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals
Prof. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, has issued a ministerial decree renewing the appointment of Prof. Tarek Youssef Ahmed Youssef, Professor of General Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, as Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals for a three-year term.
Prof. Tarek Youssef brings extensive academic, professional, and administrative experience to the position. He has made significant contributions to developing operational systems across the University Hospitals and enhancing the quality of medical services provided to patients, alongside his role in advancing institutional development and improving operational efficiency throughout Ain Shams University Hospitals.
Prof. Tarek Youssef received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, and subsequently progressed through the academic ranks in the Department of General Surgery, from Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer to Assistant Professor and ultimately Professor of General Surgery, specializing in colorectal surgery.
He also obtained his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in General Surgery from the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, as well as a master’s degree in advanced Laparoscopic Surgery from Italy. He holds Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is licensed to practice medicine in both Egypt and England.
At the administrative level, Prof. Tarek Youssef has held several leadership positions at Ain Shams University Hospitals, including Director of the Surgical Unit, Director of Central Operating Theatres, Director of the Emergency Building at El-Demerdash Surgical Hospital, Assistant Hospital Director, Deputy General Director of El-Demerdash Surgical Hospital, Deputy Director of the New Emergency Hospital, and General Director of El-Demerdash Surgical Hospital. He later served as Deputy Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals before assuming the position of Executive Director of the University Hospitals in 2023, a role he has held to date.
Professionally and academically, Prof. Tarek Youssef is a member of several Egyptian and international surgical societies and institutions, including the Egyptian Society of Surgeons, the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery, the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Endoscopic Surgery Association, the Egyptian Society of Laparoscopic Surgery, and the Egyptian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and serves on the boards of several scientific societies, in addition to serving as Treasurer of the Egyptian Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
Prof. Tarek Youssef has an extensive scientific and research record. He has participated in more than 100 local, regional, and international conferences as a speaker, session chair, and participant, in addition to taking part in more than 50 workshops and training courses in Egypt and abroad. He has also published more than 20 scientific papers in local and international journals in the fields of general surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and colorectal surgery.
He has also contributed significantly to advancing scientific research and training within the department, supervising more than 30 Master’s and Doctoral theses since 2009.
