In a new medical achievement that further strengthens the leading role of Ain Shams University Hospitals in adopting the latest global technologies in cancer treatment, the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospitals has successfully introduced the advanced Theranostics technology for patients with advanced prostate cancer, for the first time at the level of university hospitals in Egypt, using Lu-177 PSMA as one of the latest applications of targeted radionuclide therapy.

This achievement comes under the patronage of Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors; Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals; and Prof. Essam Fakhry Obeid, Deputy Executive Director of the University Hospitals and Director General of Demerdash Hospital.

The new technology represents a ray of hope for patients with advanced prostate cancer, particularly those who have exhausted several available treatment options. It works by directing the therapeutic agent to cells expressing PSMA receptors, allowing for more precise targeting of the tumor and its spread.

The achievement goes beyond introducing advanced therapeutic technology, as it also reflects the community and humanitarian role of Ain Shams University Hospitals. In cooperation with the Oncidium Foundation and Femto Trade, several doses were provided free of charge to patients who are unable to afford the treatment, under an agreement with the University Hospitals, supporting access to modern therapeutic technologies for different groups of patients.

As part of knowledge transfer and medical capacity building, Dr. Yehia Omar Hussein, Consultant of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and Ambassador of the Oncidium Foundation, shared his scientific and practical expertise with residents and technicians of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. He also delivered a specialized lecture on Theranostics technology, its indications, benefits, and criteria for selecting suitable cases, prior to administering the dose to the selected patient.

The service is provided through multidisciplinary collaboration between the Departments of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine and Oncology at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The oncology team is responsible for evaluating cases and selecting patients who are expected to benefit from this advanced type of treatment.

The introduction of this technology opens new horizons for patients with advanced prostate cancer and represents an important addition to scientific research, medical training, and international publication in one of the most rapidly developing fields of nuclear medicine and cancer treatment.
