Ain Shams University Hospitals Receive Nearly 740,000 Patients and Perform More Than 7.4 million Laboratory Tests During Fiscal Year 2025/2026

As part of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's efforts to enhance the performance of university hospitals and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens, Ain Shams University Hospitals continued to play a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care, achieving outstanding performance indicators during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. These results underscore the efficiency of the University Hospitals' healthcare system and their dual mission of providing high-quality patient care while advancing medical education and scientific research.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, emphasized that the University's hospitals remain one of the fundamental pillars of Egypt's healthcare system, continuing to provide integrated medical services to patients. He noted that the performance indicators achieved during the 2025/2026 fiscal year reflect the efficiency of the hospitals' operations and the University's ongoing commitment to upgrading healthcare services in line with the vision of Prof. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which focuses on improving healthcare quality, expanding the use of advanced medical technologies, modernizing infrastructure, and supporting healthcare professionals to strengthen the educational, clinical, and research roles of university hospitals.

The University President explained that statistics issued by the Medical Records and Statistics Department revealed remarkable growth across all healthcare services, reflecting the hospitals' advanced medical capabilities, highly qualified workforce, and their capacity to serve patients from across Egypt.

During the fiscal year, Ain Shams University Hospitals:

•  Received 739,048 patients through emergency departments and outpatient clinics.

•  Admitted 128,893 inpatients and day-case patients.

•  Treated 34,033 patients in intensive care units.

•  Performed 31,351 surgical procedures across various specialties.

•  Recorded 8,352 deliveries, including both normal and cesarean births.

The hospitals also provided:

•  53,038 hemodialysis sessions.

•  7,621 endoscopic procedures.

•  12,459 psychiatric and intelligence assessment services.

•  5,867 cardiac, neurovascular, and vascular catheterization procedures.

Diagnostic services included:

•  220,974 diagnostic and interventional imaging examinations.

•  78,529 ultrasound and Doppler studies.

•  89,944 electrocardiography (ECG) and echocardiography services.

•  20,191 physical therapy sessions.

•  11,610 audiology and speech therapy services.

•  3,852 electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction, and electromyography (EMG) studies.

•  In oncology care, the hospitals delivered 18,819 chemotherapy sessions and 9,574 radiotherapy and nuclear medicine sessions.

•  Meanwhile, the University's medical laboratories and pathology departments demonstrated exceptional diagnostic capacity by performing 7,461,160 laboratory tests and examinations, in addition to providing 10,336 pathology services, highlighting the advanced diagnostic capabilities of Ain Shams University Hospitals.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen reaffirmed the University's commitment to continuing the modernization of its university hospitals through infrastructure development, expansion of specialized medical services, wider adoption of cutting-edge medical technologies, and continuous enhancement of clinical, educational, and research systems, thereby improving healthcare quality and supporting Egypt's national healthcare development strategy.

For his part, Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Ain Shams University Hospitals, stated that the year's performance indicators reflect the tremendous efforts of the medical, nursing, technical, and administrative teams, as well as the hospitals' unwavering commitment to delivering comprehensive healthcare services in accordance with the highest standards of quality and patient safety.

He added that the hospitals continue to enhance both therapeutic and diagnostic services, expand highly specialized medical disciplines, and modernize operational systems to improve efficiency and the overall quality of patient care.

Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, emphasized that these achievements reflect the integrated performance of the University's hospitals, medical departments, and specialized units. He affirmed the continued commitment to developing healthcare and diagnostic services while implementing the latest quality standards to ensure outstanding patient-centered care.
