Ain Shams University Hospitals' Stroke Unit Welcomes a Delegation of European Physicians for Hands-On Training in Advanced Stroke Management and Neurointerventional Procedures

Under the patronage of Prof. Ali El Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Ain Shams University Hospitals, and Prof. Tarek Youssef, Executive Director of Ain Shams University Hospitals, the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University has added another milestone to its record of academic excellence. In a first for an Egyptian university, the Stroke Unit and Neurointerventional Center welcomed a delegation of European physicians to participate in a specialized academic training program on the latest techniques in stroke diagnosis and treatment, as well as advanced neurointerventional procedures. The delegation included physicians from the Russian Federation, Romania, Türkiye, and Georgia.

This landmark event reflects the distinguished scientific and clinical standing achieved by the Stroke Unit at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine, which has become an international destination for physician training and knowledge exchange in one of the most advanced and highly specialized fields of medicine. The achievement comes because of the continuous support provided by the Faculty of Medicine administration.

During the academic program, participants were introduced to the latest stroke management protocols, advanced neurointerventional techniques, and best practices in managing critical neurological emergencies. They also took part in hands-on clinical training within the unit, benefiting from the extensive Egyptian expertise built upon daily clinical practice and the outstanding patient outcomes achieved by the unit over recent years.

Prof. Ahmed El-Besyouni, Director of the Stroke Unit and Neurointerventional Center at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine, emphasized that welcoming European physicians for training at an Egyptian medical unit represents a major milestone and reflects the growing confidence international medical institutions place in Ain Shams University's healthcare system.

He stated: "The decision of European physicians to travel to Egypt for training at the Stroke Unit of Ain Shams University is a strong testament to our leadership in stroke management and neurointerventional care across the Middle East and Africa, both academically and professionally."

He added: "Over the past few years, Egypt has witnessed remarkable progress in stroke management and neurointerventional procedures. Today, our unit possesses the expertise, advanced capabilities, and highly qualified professionals necessary to train physicians from around the world in accordance with the latest international standards. We have also achieved outstanding clinical outcomes that are comparable to those of many leading international specialized centers."

Dr. Presia Bogdan of Romania commented: "We chose the Stroke Unit at Ain Shams University because of its outstanding scientific reputation and extensive expertise in stroke treatment and neurointerventional procedures. We experienced an exceptionally high standard of training and organization, along with the remarkable professionalism of the medical team, making this a highly valuable academic experience for us."

It is worth noting that the Stroke Unit and Neurointerventional Center at Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine was awarded the prestigious SILC (Stroke Interventional Laboratory Certification) by the Society of Vascular and Interventional Neurology (SVIN), becoming the first stroke unit in the Middle East and the first outside the United States to receive this distinguished international accreditation. The recognition was granted after the unit successfully implemented the highest American standards in neurointerventional procedures and stroke management while continuing to provide all of its treatment services free of charge to Egyptian patients.

This international accreditation has significantly strengthened the unit's global reputation and has played a key role in attracting physicians from around the world seeking advanced scientific and practical training in this highly specialized field.
