During the session, Prof. Farouk reviewed several initiatives targeted by the Sector, foremost among them the “Save It, Light It” campaign launched by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The campaign aligns with the State’s vision for sustainable development by promoting resource efficiency, rationalizing energy consumption, fostering a culture of energy conservation within universities, enhancing environmental awareness and positive student behaviors, and transforming conservation concepts into practical, applicable actions. It also aims to support innovation and student projects related to energy and sustainability, encourage the use of smart solutions and clean energy, reduce electricity and energy waste within educational institutions, and strengthen the role of student unions in implementing community initiatives.

She also reviewed the University’s efforts toward becoming a smart university and highlighted the significant progress achieved in developing its technological infrastructure and enhancing the quality of educational services.

Prof. Farouk further commended the efforts of the Sector’s members in organizing and implementing comprehensive development convoys across various governorates throughout Egypt, both in the north and south, according to an annual plan. These efforts have positioned Ain Shams University among the leading Egyptian universities in the implementation of integrated development convoys.

In addition, Prof. Ghada Farouk was selected to serve as Rapporteur of the Integrated Convoys Committee at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This appointment reflects the importance of universities’ role in launching integrated development convoys, medical, veterinary, and agricultural, as part of their commitment to community service. The initiative promotes cooperation among public, private, national, and foreign university branches operating in Egypt to organize convoys throughout the country.

She also noted that data on comprehensive development convoys conducted by Egyptian universities have been compiled through a dedicated reporting model covering both completed convoys and those planned for June, July, and August 2026 across public, private, and national universities. This effort aims to establish a comprehensive vision for the development of university convoys throughout the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Council meeting also included honoring faculty members who participated in awareness campaigns and various outreach activities throughout the academic year.
