The Department of
Family Medicine at the
Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, organized its first scientific
conference under the patronage of Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the
Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University and Chairman of the
Board of University Hospitals, and Prof. Hesham Hamdy, Professor of Internal Medicine and Head of the Department of
Family Medicine at the Faculty.
The
conference brought together a distinguished group of professors of
Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics from various Egyptian universities, reflecting the department’s commitment to fostering scientific exchange and keeping pace with the latest global developments in primary
healthcare and family medicine.
The
conference aimed to discuss the latest international medical recommendations and guidelines, while emphasizing the pivotal role of family physicians in disease prevention, early diagnosis, and comprehensive
patient follow-up, thereby contributing to improving the quality of
healthcare services provided to the community.
The opening session featured a presentation on the activities and achievements of the Department of
Family Medicine at Ain Shams University, highlighting its role in advancing primary
healthcare services, supporting education and training, and promoting scientific research within the specialty.
The
conference’s scientific program included a series of specialized lectures and sessions addressing the latest updates and international guidelines in several important medical fields. Topics included the 2026 recommendations of the American Diabetes Association for the
treatment and follow-up of
patients with Type 2 Diabetes, updates from the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA 2026) on the diagnosis and management of bronchial asthma, and recent advances in the diagnosis and
treatment of headaches within primary care clinics.
The scientific sessions also addressed febrile seizures in children and methods of distinguishing them from epilepsy, the latest vaccination schedules across different age groups, and the role of family physicians in providing comprehensive care for diabetic
patients beyond pharmacological
treatment. Additional discussions covered the latest guidelines for the
treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection, the application of updated recommendations for managing hypertension and lipid disorders, and approaches to handling elevated liver enzymes within primary
healthcare practice.
The
conference witnessed rich and interactive scientific discussions between speakers and attendees following the various sessions, contributing to the exchange of expertise and enhancing the scientific and practical benefits gained by participants.
Participants emphasized that the importance of the
conference lies in its support for the concept of
family medicine as a cornerstone of the modern healthcare system. Family physicians play a central role in providing integrated and sustainable
healthcare services to all family members, regardless of age or healthcare needs.
The
conference also contributed to updating physicians’ medical knowledge in line with the latest international guidelines, strengthening concepts of primary
