Ain Shams University hosts the celebration of International Literacy Day

The ceremony was attended by Major General A. Ayman Diab, Commander of the Popular and Military Defense Forces, and Colonel Mustafa Abdullah, Director of Military Education Department, Ain Shams University.

Prof. Dr. Nazmi Abdel Hamid commended the State for its efforts to eradicate illiteracy to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

He said that Ain Shams University has been a pioneer in participating in Egypt's National Project for the Eradication of Illiteracy and Adult Education since 2013, and has been interested in holding many partnerships and protocols with various state institutions and civil society interested in this issue, which is a national security issue. He added that participation in this project embodies the finest forms of community service.

Dr. Ashour Omri also reviewed the partnerships established by the Authority with many Egyptian universities, which succeeded in eradicating illiteracy of half a million Egyptians through the efforts of students and professors of Egyptian universities over five years through curricula based on thought and creativity and simulate the surrounding environment and not on conservation. Effective steps that have been taken within the framework of literacy in Egypt, through the Adult Education Authority, and a number of partners from civil society institutions, ministries and NGOs were also presented.

He also thanked the armed forces of the Popular and Military Defense Forces for their support and efforts in eradicating illiteracy and achieving sustainable development for the vision of the Egyptian state.

A number of protocols were also signed with partners, including the cooperation protocol with Al-Azhar, a cooperation protocol with Rotary for literacy for the deaf and hearing impaired, a protocol of cooperation with the Women and Society Association, and a cooperation protocol with the General Union of NGOs.

The ceremony was also attended by several prominent sessions, including the government's efforts to combat illiteracy in Egypt. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Moheb Al-Rafi, former Minister of Education, as well as the efforts of civil society organizations in the field of adult education.
