World Heritage Day

The International Council on Monuments and Archaeological Sites (ICOMOS) has designated April 18 as World Heritage Day. The aim was to redouble efforts to protect World Heritage, including the tangible legacies; such as archaeological and intangible pieces and buildings; Such as the customs and traditions that bind us to our ancestors, the embodiment of cultural and civilizational values, and a reflection of the economic and social environment in which the ancients lived.

This heritage enjoys great cultural or natural importance so that its importance transcends the national borders of the state and becomes of common importance to the present and future generations of all mankind.

Egypt has seven cultural and natural heritage sites registered on the World Heritage List, namely:

1- The monuments of Nubia from Abu Simbel to Philae

2- Ancient Thebes and its tombs

3- Memphis and its cowardice

4- Historic Islamic Cairo

5- Abu Mina, west of Alexandria

6- St. Catherine Monastery and the surrounding area

7- Wadi Al-Hitan in Fayoum falls under the natural heritage sites
