Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Sciences (Program: Economic Entomology)

Admission Requirements:

The applicant must hold a research-based Master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences from one of the universities, or an equivalent degree from another accredited scientific institute, provided that no more than ten years have passed since obtaining the Master’s degree. The student must register for the Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural Sciences in the same specialization as the Master’s degree within the same department, on the condition that during the registration period the student completes at least 30 units of new specialization courses at the Master’s level with an average of no less than “Very Good” (2.7), in addition to doctoral coursework.

Egyptian and international students.

Application Periods:

Twice per year

-October: from June to August each year

-February: from November to January each year

Program Duration:

Five years

Credit Hours:

Minimum: 54 credit hours

Maximum: 66 credit hours


Program Advantages:

•  Study of economic insects, their identification, diagnosis, economic damage, and integrated pest management methods.

•  Global trend toward reducing chemical pesticide use, expanding organic farming, and increasing demand for biological control specialists.

•  Shortage of specialists in parasitoids and predatory insects for biological pest control.


Skills Acquired by Graduates:

•  Mass rearing of insects for scientific and medical purposes

•  Beekeeping management, queen rearing, diagnosis of honeybee pests and diseases

•  Production of hive products (honey, royal jelly, pollen, propolis, bee venom, wax) and quality control, as well as using bees in crop pollination

•  Production and multiplication of biological control agents, and use of parasitoids and predators in pest management

•  Design and implementation of integrated pest management (IPM) programs
