PhD in Arts (Sociology) – Anthropology and Folklore

Admission Requirements:

To enroll in the PhD program in Arts, applicants must hold a Master's degree in Arts with a minimum grade of Good from one of the Egyptian universities, or an equivalent degree from another academic institution recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities. The minimum number of students required to launch the program is three (3) students.

Egyptian and international students.

Application Period:

August.

Program Duration:

One academic semester, consisting of 15 weeks and a total of 5 courses (12 credit hours).

Credit Hours:

12 credit hours for the preparatory stage (one semester)

Acquiring participant observation and field immersion skills to understand the cultural patterns of local communities.

Mastering the conduct of in-depth ethnographic interviews and the analysis of life histories.

Developing the ability to assess the cultural and social impact of development and modernization projects on traditional and local communities.

Gaining expertise in anthropological analysis of ritual, kinship, and economic practices in both traditional and urban societies.

Acquiring field collection and scientific documentation skills for folklore and cultural heritage, including oral traditions, material culture, and community customs.

Mastering the use of scientific archiving and classification methods for folkloric materials in accordance with international standards and guidelines (such as UNESCO guidelines).

Developing structural and deconstructive analytical skills for folk texts, including epics, tales, and songs, to identify cultural values and symbols.

Acquiring the ability to design plans and programs for safeguarding and preserving intangible cultural heritage from loss or distortion.

Developing strategies for utilizing and investing folklore in cultural industries, national identity building, and sustainable tourism development.
