Five Medals Boost Ain Shams University’s Tally in Athletics at “Cairo 2026”: One Gold, Three Silvers, and One Bronze
Ain Shams University continued its outstanding performance at the 12th African University Games “Cairo 2026,” winning five medals in athletics, widely regarded as the “mother of all sports” for encompassing events based on fundamental human movements, most notably running, jumping, throwing, and walking. These disciplines are among the key physical foundations that contribute to developing fitness, strength, and speed across various sports.

Ain Shams University students with disabilities delivered remarkable performances in the para-athletics competitions. Sama Ayman Mahmoud secured first place and the gold medal in the 100-meter race, while also adding a silver medal to her tally after finishing second in the long jump.
Hamed Sayed Ameen also secured third place and the bronze medal in the 100-meter race, further highlighting the outstanding presence of Ain Shams University students with disabilities on the podium throughout the Games.
In the athletics competitions for able-bodied students, Ain Shams University continued its medal-winning run, with Reem Tamer Roshdy securing second place and the silver medal in the pole vault, while Mohamed Aboul-Maati Galal claimed second place and the silver medal in the triple jump.

These results reflect Ain Shams University’s commitment to promoting university sports as a key avenue for building students’ character, discovering talent, and developing their abilities, with particular emphasis on empowering students with disabilities and providing them with the opportunities and resources needed to participate effectively, showcase their capabilities, and achieve success alongside their peers in various competitions.
This achievement comes as part of Ain Shams University’s participation, represented by the Education and Student Affairs Sector and the General Administration of Youth Welfare, Sports Activity Department, in the 12th African University Games “Cairo 2026,” under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, with administrative coordination and supervision by Mr. Ibrahim Saeed Hamza, Assistant Secretary-General of the University for the Education and Student Affairs Sector.
The medals won by Ain Shams University students in athletics, alongside their achievements across the various sports featured in the Games, reflect the University’s continued efforts to support student sports, nurture its champions, and provide a motivating competitive environment that helps prepare a generation capable of representing the University with distinction and achieving further success at sporting events.
