Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abdeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Mamdouh Moawad, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology; Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research; and Prof. Sherweit El-Ahmedy, Executive Director of the International Relations and Academic Collaboration Sector, and under the supervision and coordination of Dr. Noha El-Rafaei, Deputy Director of the Grants and Projects Administration and Coordinator of the Children University at Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Science at Ain Shams University, headed by Prof. Amal Morsi, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science, and coordinated by Dr. Islam Adly, Assistant Professor at the Faculty, hosted students from Levels 9 and 10 of the “Children University” program on Monday and Tuesday, August 24 and 25.

The activities began with an introductory lecture on all the faculty’s departments, the importance of the Faculty of Science, its various specializations, and career opportunities.

The students then visited the Department of Mathematics, in coordination with Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mostafa Kamel, Head of the Department of Mathematics. Dr. Mariam Essam, Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, explained the E1 & E2 curriculum to the students, who demonstrated exceptional academic performance. The students then visited several departments of the faculty to learn about different scientific disciplines.

The Department of Zoology at the Faculty of Science also welcomed the Children University students, in coordination with Prof. Hoda Taha, Acting Head of the Department of Zoology, and Prof. Fikry El-Dawy, Rapporteur of the Department’s Museum Committee. The visit began with Dr. Asmaa Ali Bayoumi, Assistant Professor of Invertebrates at the Department, welcoming the children and delivering an introductory lecture on animals, their divisions and classification. She also explained the concept of extinction and how it occurs, as well as methods of specimen preservation and taxidermy. The students actively participated in the discussion throughout the lecture.

The children also visited the Department’s two museums: the Invertebrates Museum and the Vertebrates Museum. They were accompanied during the tour by Dr. Asmaa Ali Bayoumi, Dr. Ayat Taha, and Eng. Esraa Shaaban. The students learned about the museum specimens, including those preserved in formalin, taxidermized specimens, skeletons, and models illustrating various structures of the human body. All their questions and inquiries were answered during the museum visit.

The students then proceeded to the Department of Botany, where the tour began with an introductory lecture on the Department of Botany, coordinated with Prof. Hoda Anwar, Head of the Department. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Mahmoud Rabie and Dr. Nancy Boutros Antoine, members of the supporting academic staff at the Department of Botany, Faculty of Science.

The students subsequently visited the Department of Entomology, in coordination with Prof. Dr. Rawda Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Head of the Department. They began their visit at the Department’s Entomology Museum, which is considered one of the most important entomological museums in Egyptian universities. Dr. Abdullah Samer, Dr. Sara Ahmed, Dr. Farah Yasser, and Dr. Mohamed Gomaa, members of the supporting academic staff at the Department of Entomology, Faculty of Science, explained the museum’s collections and provided the students with important information about insects, their medical significance, and methods of preserving insect specimens used for educational purposes by entomology departments at Egyptian universities.

The students also participated in a discussion with several faculty members from the department, including Prof. Magda Hassan, Prof. Shaimaa Moamen, and Dr. Islam Adly, on the medical and economic importance of insects and their pivotal role in various agricultural and economic fields.

The visit concluded with a tour of the laboratories of the Department of Chemistry, coordinated by Prof. Wael Abu El-Magd, Head of the Department of Chemistry. Dr. Mohamed El-Banna explained laboratory safety rules and procedures to the students, followed by an introduction to the study of polar and non-polar liquids and how to mix them using surfactants. The students also conducted a simple experiment to produce a type of solid soap, such as Safo. The experiment was highly engaging and enjoyable for the students at the Faculty of Science, Ain Shams University.

It is worth noting that the “Children University” program activities at Ain Shams University are being held from August 16 to 27, as part of the University’s commitment to providing an engaging educational environment that contributes to building a generation capable of creativity, innovation, and shaping the future.

The Grants and Projects Administration plays a pivotal role in coordinating and managing the program’s logistics, in cooperation with “For Egypt” Students, by welcoming the children, monitoring their activities, and accompanying them throughout the day’s events, thereby ensuring their safety and the smooth implementation of activities in a safe and well-organized educational environment.
