Ain Shams University Advances 219 Places Globally in the Webometrics Ranking, Reaffirming Its Digital and Academic Leadership

Ain Shams University continued to strengthen its international standing after achieving a significant leap in the January 2026 edition of the Webometrics global ranking, advancing 219 positions at once compared to its previous placement. The University ranked 658th worldwide among more than 32,000 higher education institutions globally, securing third place at the national level.

This achievement comes within the framework of Ain Shams University’s institutional development and digital transformation strategy, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and the supervision of Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, with the dedicated efforts of the University’s International Ranking Team and Electronic Portal Team.

Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen affirmed that this notable advancement is the result of an integrated institutional effort aimed at improving international ranking indicators. This has been achieved through enhancing digital accessibility, developing the University’s official website to effectively reflect academic, research, and service activities, expanding smart digital services, and upgrading technological infrastructure, factors that have directly contributed to the improvement of the University’s global ranking.

The University President also noted that Ain Shams University has focused on developing academic programs and assessment methods, supporting international partnerships, increasing international research publications, and strengthening its community role. In addition, the distinction of its graduates, their receipt of international awards, and their growing employability in local and global labor markets have all contributed to reinforcing the University’s leading position in global rankings.

Prof. Diaa Zain El-Abedeen extended his congratulations to the Electronic Portal Team in recognition of their outstanding efforts, emphasizing that this achievement reflects the success of Ain Shams University’s vision for digital transformation and the enhancement of its global academic presence.

For her part, Prof. Rasha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences and Director of the University’s Electronic Portal, explained that the Webometrics ranking is issued twice annually, in January and July, and aims to encourage universities to strengthen their digital presence while supporting open access and transparency policies. She added that Webometrics also releases a special edition evaluating universities based on citation metrics, relying on Google Scholar data.

She affirmed that the progress achieved reflects Ain Shams University’s commitment to digital and research quality standards and its continuous pursuit of greater international competitiveness.
