Ain Shams University, in its ongoing support of Arab culture and its commitment to fostering creativity and intercultural dialogue, announces the opening of nominations for the 21st UNESCO-Sharjah prize for Arab Culture in 2026. This announcement was made by the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO and is under the patronage of Prof. Amany Osama Kamel, Vice President of the University for Graduate Studies and Research.
The prize is awarded annually in recognition of outstanding contributions to Arab culture and the preservation of tangible and intangible Arab cultural heritage.
The award aims to:
• Honor a cultural figure from an Arab country and another from a non-Arab country.
• Support intellectual, artistic, or promotional works that have contributed to the development and global dissemination of Arab culture.
• Promote dialogue between cultures and civilizations, and highlight the values of cultural diversity and mutual respect.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Be individuals, institutions, or non-governmental organizations with a significant contribution to the development and dissemination of Arab culture.
• Possess a distinguished international reputation and a proven track record of achievements.
• Play an active role in promoting intercultural dialogue.
The selection criteria include:
• Innovation and creativity.
• Contribution to cultural research and the promotion of societal values, particularly in the areas of women and youth.
• Contribution to the development and preservation of Arab cultural heritage.
• Highlighting the unity within the creative diversity of humanity.
• Supporting dialogue among cultures and civilizations and respect for others.
Nominations are submitted by:
• Governments of UNESCO Member States,
• Non-governmental organizations in official relations with UNESCO.
The Deadline of Applying:
The Egyptian National Commission for UNESC has set February 15, 2026, as the deadline for receiving nominations at the national level, to allow sufficient time for the necessary evaluation process.
