As part of reinforcing Ain Shams University’s leading societal role, and in implementation of the cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Ain Shams University, and the Sawiris Foundation for Community Development (Dar wa Salama Project), the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Ain Shams University organized a comprehensive development convoy to serve the residents of Awlad Yahya Al-Hager village in Dar El-Salam Center, Sohag Governorate, in cooperation with Sohag Governorate and a number of civil society organizations.

The convoy was held under the patronage of Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning and Economic Development; Major General Dr. Abdel Fattah Mohamed Nour El-Din, Governor of Sohag; Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; and Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The convoy lasted for three consecutive days and successfully delivered its diverse services to approximately 2,500 beneficiaries, including medical, pharmaceutical, and social services, in addition to literacy eradication and adult education activities. This came within the framework of fruitful cooperation between the University and the Sawiris Foundation for Community Development, the Makers of Life Egypt Foundation, the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, and the General Authority for Adult Education.

The medical component included the operation of nine specialized medical clinics, in addition to a clinic for measuring blood pressure and blood glucose levels. Medications were dispensed free of charge according to physicians’ diagnoses, and 70 medical cases requiring advanced care were referred to Ain Shams University Hospitals for treatment, with the participation of the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Nursing, as well as the University Hospitals.

Within the social component, and in coordination with the Egyptian Red Crescent Society, 300 blankets were distributed to the neediest families in support of social protection and the improvement of living standards.

The literacy eradication and adult education component witnessed literacy enrollment for 11 beneficiaries and the conduct of 8 immediate tests, organized by the Adult Education Center at Ain Shams University.

In this context, Prof. Ghada Farouk affirmed that the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector is keen to implement comprehensive development convoys that tour governorates across the Republic, from north to south, according to an annual plan coordinated with the Supreme Council of Universities, stemming from the University’s belief in its societal role and national responsibility toward the most vulnerable groups.
