Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa, President of the University, Prof. Ghada Farouk, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Amira Youssef, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Heba Barakat, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector, in cooperation with the Department of Geography, organized a distinguished scientific seminar entitled: “Smart Transportation and Modern Roads: Egypt’s Vision 2030”, on the morning of Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in the Faculty’s Conference Hall.

The seminar was presented by Prof. Asst. Dr. Reham Mohamed Ezz El-Din, Assistant Professor of Economic Geography and Geographic Information Systems in the department. Dr. Reham began the seminar with a comprehensive definition of the concept of smart transportation, highlighting the importance of developing an intelligent transportation network and reviewing its basic system components.
The lecture delved into how artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things can be used in transportation to increase efficiency and improve the user experience.
Dr. Ezz El-Din then moved on to an engaging and informative segment, providing a comprehensive and visually stunning overview of Egypt's massive national transportation projects.
She discussed key projects such as the Rod El Farag-Dabaa Axis, the Samalut Axis, and the 30th of July Axis, in addition to the modern electric bus rapid transit system.
The presentation also covered pioneering projects like the light rail, highlighting the importance of Adly Mansour Station as a central hub, the Bashteel train station in Giza, and culminating in the largest project of all: the high-speed electric train (Ain Sokhna-Marsa Matrouh).
She highlighted the development of ports such as Gargoub Port and the "Tahya Misr" container terminal at Damietta Port, and discussed the development of river transport through the river taxi project.
The presentation concluded with a review of the most prominent developments in air transport, including Sphinx International Airport and the air taxi project.
A collection of photos and videos, which Dr. Reham used to enrich her presentation, contributed to increasing the benefit of the seminar for both students and faculty staff, enhancing their practical understanding of the projects presented.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Prof. Siham Hashem presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Reham Mohamed Ezz El-Din for her efforts and the value of the scientific content presented. The head of the department also presented a set of important suggestions, most notably the holding of several field visits to some modern means of transportation to practically see their importance and benefits.
