Ain Shams University has achieved a new artistic and cultural milestone, adding to its distinguished record of excellence. The university’s theater team won acting awards at the 18th Tangier International University Theater Festival, held in the Kingdom of Morocco from November 2 to 9, 2025, proudly representing the Arab Republic of Egypt in this major international event.
The participation of Ain Shams University came under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University.
This year’s festival witnessed fierce competition with broad participation from countries including Italy, Spain, France, Poland, Lithuania, Montenegro, Portugal, Egypt, and Morocco, creating a vibrant artistic and cultural atmosphere throughout the event.

The Ain Shams University theater team presented a play titled “The Shadow”, adapted from “The Case of the Donkey’s Shadow” by the renowned playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt, directed by Khaled Ahmed. The performance was staged at Becket Theater on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
The play received wide acclaim from both the jury and the audience, earning the team multiple acting awards. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Abu Kleel, a student at the Faculty of Arts, won the Best Actor Award, while Ahmed Fathi El-Sweify received the Award for Excellence in Acting.
The university’s delegation was headed by Dr. Samar Ragab, Lecturer at the Faculty of Education and Leader of the “Student for Egypt” Family, and included Wesam Khaled, President of the University Student Union, along with the university’s theater team.

Preparation for the play began in September 2025, with rehearsals and administrative arrangements coordinated from the initial communication with the festival organizers through to the delegation’s travel. The participation was organized under the supervision of Mr. Ibrahim Said Hamza, Assistant Secretary-General for Education and Student Affairs, and implemented by the General Administration of Youth Welfare, with contributions from theater specialists within the department.
This achievement reflects Ain Shams University’s dedication to nurturing and supporting student talents in all artistic and cultural fields, reaffirming its position as a beacon of knowledge and culture.
