Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abideen, President of Ain Shams University, the Faculty of Mass Communication, headed by Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty, and supervised by Prof. Salwa Suleiman, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, hosted a seminar entitled “Confronting the Challenges and Threats to Egyptian National Security.”
The seminar was organized by the Education and Student Affairs Sector at the General Administration of Youth Welfare, under the supervision of Mr. Ibrahim Said Hamza, Assistant Secretary of the University for the Education and Student Affairs Sector.
The seminar featured lectures by Prof. Yomna El-Hamaki, Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Commerce; Prof. Hani Mahmoud, Professor of Islamic Sharia at the Faculty of Law; and Prof. Basma Adel, Professor of Public Law at the Faculty of Law.
Prof. Heba Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Mass Communication, welcomed the seminar’s distinguished speakers and emphasized that the event represents an important opportunity for students to understand the dimensions of national security, enhancing their awareness and perception of the challenges facing the nation.
She pointed out the Egyptian state’s recognition of the importance of media as a cornerstone in safeguarding national security, stressing the need to prepare a conscious generation capable of serving its homeland and committed to delivering professional media content within the framework of social responsibility toward the citizen, society, and the state.
Prof. Yomna El-Hamaki, Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Commerce, highlighted the significance of the seminar in building students’ capacities and developing their skills to make them more aware of national issues. She underlined the noble mission of media in enlightening society and promoting positive values, stressing the importance of media professionals equipping themselves with scientific and professional knowledge to succeed and to carry a clear message that contributes to serving national causes.
She further noted that many young people have already succeeded despite challenges, emphasizing the importance of adhering to values alongside supporting the state in combating threats and challenges.
Prof. Basma Adel, Professor of Public International Law at the Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, explained the role of international law and media in strengthening national security, clarifying that the modern concept of national security extends beyond external threats to include cultural, social, and political dimensions. She stressed that international law regulates relations among states and safeguards international peace and security, adding that media serves as a bridge between national security and international law through awareness-raising, education, early warning, and documenting violations to present them comprehensively before international bodies, thereby enhancing the chances of holding violators accountable.
Prof. Hani Mahmoud, Professor of Islamic Sharia, affirmed that the profession of media is a message-oriented vocation that carries a trust and responsibility toward society. He stressed that regardless of the problems or obstacles facing society, they will never diminish Egyptians’ loyalty and belonging to their great homeland.
