The 53rd Annual Conference of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University, concluded under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty and Chairman of the Board of Directors of University Hospitals. The conference was attended by Prof. Hala Suweed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Prof. Tarek Youssef, Director of University Hospitals. The conference also included a group of faculty members and support staff from the Ophthalmology Department at Ain Shams University, as well as several ophthalmologists from various Egyptian universities and the Ministry of Health.

The conference made several recommendations, most notably the emphasis on continuing research efforts to keep pace with rapid developments in this vital field and promoting the use of modern scientific research methodologies, which contribute to developing the skills of young doctors and achieving clinical and scientific excellence.
During the opening session, the late Professor Mohamed Fathy El-Makkawy and Professor Abdel Latif Siam, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Ain Shams University, former President of the Ophthalmology Society, and a leading figure in ophthalmic surgery in Egypt and the Arab world, were honored in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the field of ophthalmology. Several distinguished faculty staff were also honored for their outstanding contributions to the department's educational and clinical activities over the past year.

The conference discussed the latest developments in various ophthalmic specialties, including the cornea, retina, cataracts, and glaucoma. The conference also featured an extensive presentation of the scientific and research activities of the department's specialized clinics, including the Strabismus Clinic, the Iris Clinic, the Genetic Diseases Clinic, and the Ocular Oncology Clinic.
The conference sessions also included a review of the activities of faculty members and young doctors in the field of micro-ophthalmic surgery, along with the screening of documentary videos of the latest surgeries performed by the department over the past year. The scientific sessions focused on the latest research and scientific studies, discussing research issues from various perspectives, with the goal of achieving best practices and excellence in the micro-specialties of ophthalmology and eye surgery.
A session was also held to train young doctors in the best ways to increase the international publication rates of scientific research conducted by faculty members.

The conference also focused on the need to increase cooperation between different Egyptian universities in the field of scientific research, with guests from various Egyptian universities participating in the various conference sessions. This increased the mutual exchange of clinical and scientific expertise between Ain Shams University and the ophthalmology departments of various universities.
