Under the auspices of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, Prof. Amr Abdel Salam Shaat, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and Engineer Mansour Badawi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Giza Drinking Water and Wastewater Company, signed a cooperation protocol between the Faculty of Engineering, represented by the Center of Excellence for Water, and the Giza Drinking Water and Wastewater Company. This agreement aims to enhance research and development at the company.

This comes within the framework of implementing the faculty’s strategic objectives, which include linking education and scientific research with industry, in addition to international and local partnerships and creating new scientific outcomes through applied scientific research.
The protocol includes the commencement of implementation of the CIRQUA project phases of the European Union's PRIMA program, titled "An Integrated Approach to Enhancing the Efficiency of Sustainable Water and Soil Reuse," which utilizes new and innovative biotechnologies to treat wastewater, integrated with artificial intelligence. This is in line with Egypt's 2030 Development Vision and the National Strategy for the Drinking Water and Wastewater Sector in Egypt 2050. This also implements the state's plan to truly leverage scientific research and continuous development to raise the efficiency of drinking water and wastewater systems and sustainably deliver services to citizens in accordance with standard criteria and specifications.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prof. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing; Prof. Ahmed Moneeb El-Sabbagh, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Abdel Qawi Khalifa, former Minister of Drinking Water and Wastewater Utilities; Prof. Hoda Susa, Director of the Center of Excellence for Water Research and Head of the Irrigation and Hydraulics Department; Dr. Amal Abdel Hafeez Abdel Latif, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Giza Water Company; and Dr. Ahmed Badr Kamel, General Director of the General Administration of Research and Development at the Giza Water Company.
