Poetry, criticism, and society symposium... at the Faculty of Education

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Hazem Rashid, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Ain Shams University, Prof. Dr. Safaa Shehata, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Alaa El-Din Abdel-Halim, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, Prof. Dr. Hassan Abd al-Maqsoud, head of the Arabic language department at the faculty. A symposium entitled Poetry, Criticism and Society was held in the faculty. It was organized by the Department of Arabic Language in the faculty in cooperation with the Poetry Committee of the Supreme Council of Culture, and in the presence and participation of the great poet Ahmed Sweilem, Rapporteur of the Poetry Committee of the Council, and the poet and critic Ahmed Hassan, member of the Poetry Committee of the Council. He also moderated the session and coordinated the activities of the symposium Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Fouad is a professor of literature and modern criticism at the faculty.

In her speech, Prof. Dr. Safaa Shehata explained the importance of holding these cultural meetings in coordination between the faculty and the Supreme Council of Culture, in the presence of a group of students, in order to gain appropriate educational and scientific contact with cultural institutions in the community.

         
   
         

Prof. Dr. Aladdin Abdel Halim, in his speech at the symposium, confirmed the necessity of continuing this continuous cooperation and fruitful communication with the Poetry Committee and other committees of the Supreme Council of Culture, in order to achieve the faculty’s function in community service and its permanent communication with the major cultural institutions in society.

Prof. Dr. Hassan Abdel Maqsoud, in his speech, expressed his gratitude to the Poetry Committee and the great poet Ahmed Sweilem for the fruitful cooperation in holding this important symposium.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Fouad pointed out in his speech to the main reason for choosing this title for the symposium; Where poetry does not rise and achieve its cognitive and cultural message only through two main wings, which are literary criticism and the audience of readers (society).

The symposium dealt with several important topics in which the two guests participated in the discussion, the most important of which is the relationship of poetry to criticism and its impact on positive and negative critics’ assessments, the role of community institutions such as the Poetry Committee in promoting poetry, the challenges of poetry and criticism at the present time, the future of the vertical poem, the evaluative visions about the prose poem, and the creative composition of the poet. And the cognitive preparation of the critic and others, and the two guests recited several poems during the symposium, in addition to some students and faculty staff reciting some poetic texts from their composition.
