The Prime Minister participates in the conference of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects and a remarkable attendance at the projects of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, participated in the activities of the conference (the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects), which is generously sponsored by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, in the presence of Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Cooperation International Conference, Ms. Nevin El-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity, Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, and Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, Climate Pioneer for the Egyptian Presidency of the 27th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), chair of the jury committee of the initiative.

A number of governors, the General Coordinator of the Initiative, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Egypt, a large number of officials, representatives of parliaments, private sector institutions, civil society, representatives of a number of international and regional organizations, heads of federations and chambers of commerce, and a number of heads of Universities, and a group of experts, academics and media professionals also participated in the activities.

After arriving at the conference headquarters, the Prime Minister inspected the exhibition of qualified projects at the governorate level, which was held on the sidelines of the activities of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, accompanied by Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, and a number of governors. Dr. Mahmoud Mohieeldin, Climate Pioneer for the Egyptian Presidency of the Climate Change Conference (COP27), and Ms. Elena Panova, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Egypt.

The exhibition includes large pavilions for all governorates of the Republic to provide an opportunity to display the winning projects in this initiative at the level of each governorate in the pavilion allocated to it.

The Prime Minister stressed that the National Green Projects Initiative is an unprecedented initiative, as it emphasizes the seriousness of dealing with the environmental dimension and climate changes within the framework of achieving sustainable development goals and digital transformation, by presenting projects that achieve these goals, and this initiative comes within the framework of Egypt's readiness to host and chairing the COP27 climate summit in the coming days.

During his presence in the governorates' pavilions at the exhibition, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly held a dialogue with the representatives of the governorates about the projects they submitted for the National Initiative and the winning projects in the initiative.

Madbouly listened to a detailed explanation about what these projects are, their fields, how to implement them, and their role in the "transition to green", including the projects of the Faculty of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University, which is headed by Dr. Noha Samir Donia, where the projects range from reusing waste, and projects for biofuel production, in addition to to the manufacture of spinning and weaving machines that can work using solar energy, as well as a nucleus for projects to produce green hydrogen, “green clothes”, and other projects to benefit from agricultural wastewater, in addition to projects that reduce heat emissions, in addition to other projects for the production of MDG wood, Thus, factories for the production of high-quality and environmentally friendly alternative flooring, as well as electronic applications that provide farmers with guidance on various cultivations and their appropriate timing for each type of crop, and modern irrigation methods.

The Prime Minister inquired of the exhibitors from the governorates about whether they had already started implementing these projects, or they were just ideas and studies, as the exhibitors explained that there are some projects that have already started to be implemented, and there are other projects that are currently being coordinated to start work, as well. It was noted during the Prime Minister's inspection of the exhibition pavilions that the 18 winning projects at the level of the Republic within the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, are scheduled to be presented during the activities of the COP27 Climate Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, where they were selected according to specific criteria, after the consideration of the specialized jury, In 162 projects within the six categories of the initiative, out of a total of more than 6,000 projects submitted to participate in this national initiative.

At the end of his tour of the exhibition pavilions, the Prime Minister directed the necessity of coordinating with the competent authorities to start implementing these important projects, which are in line with the state’s strategy towards the transition to a green economy, with activating a clear map at the governorate level for green and smart projects and attracting the necessary investments, in partnership with The private sector, which can have an effective role in these projects.

It is worth noting that the projects that the Prime Minister inspected during his tour of the exhibition held on the sidelines of the conference of the National Initiative for Green and Smart Projects include 6 categories for 27 governorates, namely: large companies, medium projects, and small local projects (related to the presidential initiative "Dignified Life"). ) and startup companies, women, climate change and sustainability, and non-profit community initiatives and participation, and 162 projects were selected, 6 projects for each governorate, including a project for each of the six specified categories, so that there are 27 projects under the title “Ambassador of the governorate” in the initiative, and the final selection was made. For 18 winning projects, including 3 projects in each category.

It is also mentioned that the national initiative is the first initiative that links the governorates and localities with the nature of the environmental dimension and is compatible with the plan to localize the sustainable development goals at the governorate level, and it is intended to be recognized at the international level through the United Nations after the plan is stabilized at the local level.
