Cultivation of the first artificial cornea in Egypt at Ain Shams University

A medical team in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Ain Shams University headed by Prof. Dr. Sharif Alwan from the first artificial cornea transplant in Egypt, with the assistance of foreign expert Ed Soledad Cortina of the University of Illinois Chicago, USA, and this process is an important step and new hope for patients with blindness cornea.

Prof. Dr. Sherif Alwan explained that the success of this surgery, which is taking place for the first time in Egypt, is an important step and a new hope for patients with blindness, which suffer from advanced cysts.

He added that the Department of Ophthalmology at the Faculty of Medicine Ain Shams University is preparing to establish the first program in Egypt for the implantation of cornea industrial in collaboration with the University of Illinois Chicago and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Soledad Cortina.

As well as the opening of a research channel with the same university and the same supervision to study the diseases and surgery of cornea, and this cooperation to establish scientific exchange, research and academic addition to the new field of medicine and eye surgery in Egypt and Africa.
