The Institute of Environmental Studies and Research celebrates the World Environment Day

On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research at Ain Shams University is organizing the scientific conference "Integrated Waste Management and Circular Economy", which is held virtually online during the period 6-8 June, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud El-Metini, President of Ain Shams University and Prof. Dr. Ayman Saleh, Vice President of the University For postgraduate affairs, Prof. Dr. Hisham Tamraz, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, Professor Noha Samir Dunya, Dean of the Institute of Environmental Studies and Research, and Professor Dr. Hala Awadallah, Vice-Dean of the Institute for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and Prof. Dr. Abdel-Azim Al-Sabbagh, conference rapporteur, stated this by Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Donia, Dean of the Institute.

She added that the conference activities will witness the opening of the green transformation unit at the institute under the supervision of Dr. Hoda Helal, unit director, and the inauguration of the Shams Be Green project for waste recycling under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Maher, Project Manager, in addition to the inauguration of an exhibition of products from recycled waste, in cooperation with the Ain Environment Association specialized in environmental affairs and climate change and the Arab Union for Sustainable Development affiliated with the League of Arab States.

Prof. Noha Samir said that the conference, which comes in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the Waste Management Authority and the Environmental Affairs Agency, aims to study the different relationships between the composition and components of waste and the various uses of those wastes in a way that reflects on the optimal use of their components and in a way that achieves the provision of secondary resources in implementation of the principles of circular economy, which starts from the first stages in planning Integrated waste management and circular economy.

She pointed out that the conference discusses several axes, which are sustainable waste management, shifting from a linear economy to a circular economy, nanoplastics in the environment, utilizing agricultural waste and its recycling and valuing biomass: converting waste into resources, converting waste into energy, managing hazardous waste, and government policies in managing Residues.

Prof. Dr. Noha Samir Dunya, Dean of the Institute, thanked the President of the University and the representatives for their continuous support to the Institute, the Green Transformation Unit, and the Shams Bey Green project for waste recycling.
