(M.Sc.)Petroleum Geophysics
2026-07-07Admission Requirements:
In addition to the general admission requirements, applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics, Petroleum Geophysics, or Geophysics combined with related double majors.
Target Group:
Egyptians – International students
Application Period:
For Master’s degree: during the following periods:
• September – October
• January – February
• May – June
Program Duration:
Master’s degree: minimum 1 year and maximum 7 years
Credit Hours:
Master’s degree: 48 credit hours
Program Advantages:
The program prepares highly qualified professionals to meet the needs of oil and gas companies, geophysical service providers, and research and consultancy institutions in exploration, reservoir evaluation, and hydrocarbon resource management. It focuses on advanced techniques in seismic data processing and interpretation, 3D and 4D modeling, advanced seismic inversion, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data analytics. The program provides a research environment that supports innovative applied studies addressing real challenges in the energy and petroleum industry, linking academic research with industrial needs. It also includes applications of geophysics in carbon capture and storage (CCS), geothermal energy, and hydrogen storage, in line with the global transition to low-carbon energy.
Skills Acquired by Graduates:
Graduates will be able to apply advanced geophysical knowledge to interpret geological structures and evaluate hydrocarbon reservoirs. They will design and conduct geophysical studies for oil and gas exploration using modern scientific methodologies. They will process and interpret advanced geophysical data (seismic and well data) using specialized software, integrate geological and engineering data to build reservoir models, apply AI and machine learning techniques, assess risk and uncertainty, and design complete scientific research projects with conclusions and recommendations. They will also apply geophysics in sustainable energy fields.
