Admission Requirements

• Applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from a Faculty of Science with a specialization in Entomology, Zoology (General Zoology, Entomology, or Medical Entomology).

• A bachelor's degree from a the Faculty of Medicine or the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, regardless of specialization.

• A bachelor's degree from a the Faculty of Agriculture with a specialization in Entomology or Plant Protection, or applicants currently working in the field of disease-vector entomology or tropical medicine, regardless of their undergraduate specialization.

• A bachelor's degree from a the Faculty of Education (Biological Sciences).

• A bachelor's degree from a Faculty or Institute of Environmental Sciences and Community Service with a specialization in Biological Sciences.

Program Advantages

- The Medical Entomology Diploma is designed to address the growing global demand for specialists capable of responding to emerging public health challenges associated with climate change and vector-borne diseases.

- The program prepares graduates to manage public health emergencies resulting from the expanding geographical distribution of disease vectors driven by global warming. It adopts the One Health approach promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health, with insects and arthropods serving as critical links among these systems.

The program also promotes strategic collaboration with international and regional organizations involved in public health, such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), providing graduates with opportunities to participate in humanitarian assistance programs and transboundary epidemic control initiatives. Furthermore, the increasing demand for environmental health services in modern residential communities and tourist destinations creates expanding career opportunities in public health pest management.


Skills Acquired by Graduates

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the life cycles of medically important insects and arthropods and their biological relationships with disease-causing agents, including viruses, bacteria, and parasites.

• Explain the cellular and genetic mechanisms underlying insecticide resistance in disease vectors.

• Develop epidemiological maps and utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify, monitor, and predict the spread of disease vectors.

• Assess the environmental and public health risks associated with large-scale chemical vector control programs and evaluate their impact on biodiversity.

• Collect, preserve, identify, and classify insect specimens using internationally recognized taxonomic keys.

• Apply modern biological and molecular techniques, including Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), to detect pathogens within insect vectors.
