Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold one of the following qualifications:

• A Bachelor of Science from a Faculty of Science with a specialization in Entomology or Zoology (General Zoology, Entomology, or Medical Entomology).

• A bachelor's degree from a Faculty of Agriculture with a specialization in Entomology or Plant Protection.

• Professionals currently working in the fields of pest management or plant protection may also be admitted regardless of their undergraduate specialization.

The program prepares graduates to address the increasing threats posed by invasive and transboundary pests, helping protect strategic crops and reduce post-harvest losses. It also responds to the global transition toward green agriculture and environmentally friendly pest management practices, where minimizing pesticide residues has become essential for international agricultural trade. Graduates gain expertise in biological and integrated pest management approaches, providing a competitive advantage in export markets that follow stringent standards such as Global G.A.P.

Beyond traditional agricultural sectors, the program prepares graduates for careers in food processing industries, grain storage and warehouse pest management, landscape management companies, and environmental consulting firms specializing in environmental impact assessment.


Skills Acquired by Graduates

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

• Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the biology, anatomy, and physiology of economically important insects and relate these characteristics to their behaviour under field conditions.

• Analyse insect population dynamics and evaluate the effects of environmental and climatic factors on pest reproduction and population growth.

• Design and analyse laboratory and field experiments to evaluate the efficacy and safety of insecticidal compounds and botanical extracts.

• Apply biostatistical analysis and mathematical modelling techniques to predict pest population outbreaks and peak activity periods.

• Diagnose insect infestations through field observations and laboratory examinations using dissection techniques and advanced microscopy.

• Apply safe and efficient mass-rearing techniques for beneficial insects, including natural enemies and honeybee-related organisms, for commercial applications.

• Prepare professional technical reports assessing pest damage and recommending appropriate management strategies for farms and industrial facilities.

• Design, implement, and manage Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs tailored to institutional budgets and environmental sustainability requirements.
