Five Students, Four Competitions, One Week…The Faculty of Al-Alsun’s Chinese Language Department at Ain Shams University Shines with Outstanding Achievements

Under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; Prof. Youmna Safwat, Dean of the Faculty of Al-Alsun; and Prof. Hassanein Fahmy Hussein, Head of the Faculty's Chinese Language Department, female students from the Chinese Language Department achieved remarkable success, securing first and second places in four cultural and youth competitions held within a single week. These achievements further demonstrate the students' excellence and their ability to represent the Faculty and University with distinction at international cultural events.

Among the most notable achievements was the short video competition organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cairo to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China and mark the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges," under the theme "Celebrating Friendship Together, Creating Dreams Together." Rawan Samir Hosny and Esraa Reda Hassan, third-year students in the Chinese Language and Literature Program, won first place, while Kenouz Mostafa Mohamed, a fourth-year student in the Specialized Chinese Translation Program, received the second prize.

The competition was organized to commemorate seven decades of diplomatic relations between Egypt and China, a relationship characterized by longstanding cooperation, friendship, and partnership. Egypt was among the first African and Arab countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China. The competition also reflects the depth of the strategic relationship between the two countries and their shared commitment to strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges under the strategic leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In another achievement, Rawan Samir Hosny secured first place in the Ideal Student Competition at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, adding another distinction to her record of academic and cultural excellence.

Meanwhile, Roaa Hashem, a student in the Specialized Chinese Translation Program, won second place in the competition "From Beijing to Cairo: Youth in Dialogue with Chinese and Egyptian Civilizations," a public speaking competition focusing on Beijing's culture. The competition was organized by the Information Office of the Beijing Municipal Government in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Egypt and the Supreme Council of Culture and implemented by the Confucius Institute at Cairo University and the China-Arab Center for Cultural and Tourism Cooperation Studies.

The competition was held under the patronage of Dr. Abdel Aziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, and attended by Prof. Ashraf El-Azazy, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture.

The competition took place at the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera House to commemorate 70 years of relations between Cairo and Beijing. It aimed to promote intercultural dialogue between Egyptian and Chinese youth and highlight the cultural and historical ties between the two peoples.

Continuing her series of achievements, Roaa Hashem also secured second place in the "China-Egypt Youth Cultural Ambassador" Competition, organized by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Cairo as part of the "China-Africa Year of People-to-People and Cultural Exchanges."

The competition attracted significant participation from Egyptian university students following its launch last July. Organizers received approximately 100 video submissions from students representing 12 Egyptian universities. The videos presented human-interest stories reflecting Egyptian Chinese friendship and highlighting cultural connections and mutual understanding between the two peoples through creative perspectives that demonstrated Egyptian youth's awareness of and interest in intercultural communication.

The competition was attended by several prominent figures, including Mr. Lu Chunsheng, Minister-Counselor for Education at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Egypt. In his remarks, he emphasized that the competition represents a practical implementation of the mutual understanding reached between the leaderships of both countries and reflects ongoing efforts to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges. He also highlighted the essential role of young people in sustaining Egyptian Chinese friendship and shaping its future.

These diverse achievements reflect the linguistic, cultural, and creative capabilities of students in the Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, as well as their commitment to applying their academic knowledge to promote intercultural dialogue and communication. They further reinforce the standing of the Faculty of Al-Alsun at Ain Shams University as a leading academic institution dedicated to preparing qualified graduates capable of building bridges of communication with people around the world.
