Dr. Shushan Hovsepyan hosted Prof. Hesham El-Ghazaly, a leading expert in breast oncology, President of the Egyptian Cancer Society, and Chairman of the National Committee for the Presidential Women’s Health Initiative, to discuss his professional journey and his philosophy of leadership and teamwork.
Prof. El-Ghazaly highlighted Egypt’s efforts to advance cancer care, particularly through the Presidential Women’s Health Initiative, which has provided awareness and early detection services to more than 23.5 million women. The initiative has also contributed to reducing the time to breast cancer diagnosis from more than 240 days to 49 days, while decreasing the number of cases diagnosed at advanced stages.
He also emphasized the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, training medical professionals, and expanding access to treatment. He stressed that successful leadership is based on empowering team members and leveraging their strengths, while underscoring the need to tailor cancer control strategies to the specific needs of each country and strengthen international collaboration in cancer research.
