Under the Slogan “Safe Care... for Life,” the Faculty of Dentistry Launches an Initiative to Raise Patient Awareness in Its Clinics

In a step aimed at enhancing the quality of healthcare and promoting a culture of patient safety, the Faculty of Dentistry at Ain Shams University organized a Patient Safety Day under the slogan “Safe Care for Life.” The event was held under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University, and Prof. Karim El-Batouty, Dean of the Faculty, and under the supervision of Prof. Walaa Hamed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Dr. Yasmine Gamal, Director of the Community Service Projects Unit; and Mr. Abdullah Hassan Ramzy, Director of the Healthcare Quality Unit. Nurse Abdel Hamid Saber also participated in delivering the awareness sessions.

The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of patient safety in dental clinics, emphasizing that safe care begins with a thorough understanding of the patient’s health condition, effective communication, and the implementation of preventive measures. The awareness sessions highlighted the relationship between oral and dental diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, while presenting real-life examples of the safe management of such cases.

The event also introduced a direct patient awareness initiative in waiting and rest areas under the slogan “Your Safety Starts with Your Awareness,” designed to prepare patients both psychologically and medically through three key steps. The first emphasized the importance of fully disclosing medical history and current medications to avoid potential drug interactions and complications. The second focused on the importance of measuring vital signs as a routine preventive measure, including blood pressure, blood glucose levels, oxygen saturation, and heart rate, while underscoring the clinics’ commitment to infection control and sterilization procedures. The third focused on building trust between patients and the medical team by clearly explaining treatment procedures and plans. This approach helps enhance patient awareness, facilitates the work of students and dentists, and reflects the faculty’s slogan, “Patient Safety... Is Everyone’s Responsibility,” making patient safety an integral part of clinical practice.
