Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Agriculture won third place at the inaugural University Innovation Summit 2026 for a graduation project titled “Utilizing Enzymatically Lactose-Hydrolyzed Whey to Produce a High-Nutritional-Value Functional Sherbet.” The project was presented by a research team from the Faculty’s Department of Food Science, in an achievement that reflects the University’s students’ excellence and their ability to apply scientific research and innovation to develop practical solutions that serve society.

The achievement was made under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs; and Prof. Walaa Abdelghani, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture. It reflects the University’s continued support for its students, commitment to encouraging innovation, creativity, and student excellence, and efforts to provide an environment that helps turn student ideas and projects into practical applications that meet the needs of society and the labor market.

The Dean of the Faculty extended his sincere congratulations and appreciation to the research team, led by Prof. Azza Farahat, Dr. Neama Said, Mr. Hossam El-Rahmany, and Ms. Aya Ismail, as well as to the student team members: Bassam Adel, Fouad Sayed, Mostafa Sobhy, Ragab Mohamed, Shams Mahmoud, Nourhan Mohamed, Mariam Tarek, and Menna Moawad. He praised them for representing the Department of Food Science and the Faculty with distinction and for achieving this accomplishment.

The team took part in the inaugural University Innovation Summit 2026, organized by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in partnership with Zewail City of Science, Technology and Innovation and the International Company for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (GIE Egypt).

The summit brought together more than 1,000 participants and featured 100 projects from 30 universities and 24 schools, representing eight specialized technological alliances. The event was held as part of the technological alliances’ framework supported by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology through its “My Project, My Start” program.

The summit included final judging of projects based on technical excellence, the quality of ideas, and innovation. It also featured specialized panel discussions and a project exhibition, giving students and graduates the opportunity to present their innovations and technological solutions to leading experts and specialists.

Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Agriculture expressed its pride in this achievement, which demonstrates its students’ ability to apply knowledge, scientific research, and innovation to develop value-added practical solutions and align graduation projects with the needs of society and the labor market.

The faculty concluded its congratulations to the research team and students, wishing them continued success, distinction, and innovation, and further achievements that bring distinction to Ain Shams University and its Faculty of Agriculture at scientific and innovation events.
