In a welcoming and engaging atmosphere, the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University launched its Orientation Week for first-year students for the new 2026/2027 academic year, under the patronage of Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals, with the participation of the faculty’s vice deans, program coordinators, and student activity coordinators.

Orientation Week reflects the Faculty of Medicine’s commitment to welcoming new students, preparing them for the start of their university journey, and introducing them to academic life as well as the activities and services offered by the faculty, contributing to their academic, personal, and cultural development.

The first day began with a welcoming address by Prof. Ali El-Anwar, Dean of the Faculty, who welcomed the new students and emphasized the importance of diligence and perseverance throughout their years of study. He highlighted the profound mission of the medical profession and the physician’s humanitarian and societal role in serving the Egyptian community. He also stressed the importance of developing students’ academic and personal skills to prepare them for the responsibilities of the profession and enable them to contribute to advancing the healthcare system.

Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and General Supervisor of Student Activities, also welcomed the new students and offered several tips and guidelines to help them make a successful start to university life. She emphasized the importance of time management, commitment and diligence in their studies, as well as active participation in student activities, which contribute to developing their skills and shaping their academic and personal growth.

The faculty’s vice deans also delivered welcoming and encouraging remarks, urging students to make the most of the various educational opportunities and activities provided by the faculty, pursue academic excellence, and develop their personal skills to become distinguished physicians capable of serving their communities.

The first day’s program also featured a distinguished cultural and interactive session with Prof. Osama El-Shazly, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and novelist, and Dr. Yara Walid, an intern physician at Ain Shams University Hospitals. The session explored the importance of developing cultural and literary interests among medical students and achieving a balance between academic studies, hobbies, and personal passions. It also highlighted the role of culture and literature in enriching physicians’ personalities and enhancing their humanistic and creative qualities.

Prof. Sarah Hamza, Director of the Extended Medical Program (EMP), delivered an encouraging address to the new students, urging them to embark on their university journey with ambition and determination and to make the most of their years of study in building their academic, professional, and personal futures.

The first day featured a lively and interactive atmosphere, with a variety of competitions and prizes that brought excitement and joy to the students. This was followed by a distinguished artistic performance by the Ain Shams Medicine Choir, which received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

The Orientation Week is held under the patronage of Prof. Rania Salah, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs and General Supervisor of Student Activities; Prof. Hala Suweed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; Prof. Tarek Youssef, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Prof. Ahmed Hamdy, Professor of Pediatrics and Coordinator of the bachelor’s Program; and Prof. Ahmed Samir Bakr, Director of the E-Learning Center and Coordinator of Student Activities.

The Orientation Week is organized as part of the Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine’s strategy to provide a stimulating and supportive university environment for new students, one that combines academic excellence with the development of personal, cultural, and artistic skills while fostering a sense of belonging, participation, and positive engagement in university life.
