In a new step toward developing the postgraduate studies system at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, and enhancing its ability to keep pace with academic developments and the needs of the labor market and scientific research, Prof. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of the Supreme Council of Universities, issued Ministerial Decree No. 1818, dated September 1, 2026, approving the updated internal regulations for postgraduate studies under the credit-hour system and bringing them into effect at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, following the completion of all required procedures and approvals by the relevant university authorities.

The decree stipulates the approval and implementation of the attached updated internal regulations and the repelling of any provisions that conflict with their provisions.

The ministerial decree brings into effect the updated internal regulations for postgraduate studies under the credit-hour system at the faculty, introducing updates to academic tracks and study programs, as well as several new academic degrees and professional and specialized diplomas across various fields.

Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty, affirmed that the issuance of the updated regulations represents an important step in the development of the postgraduate studies system. She noted that updating academic regulations and programs opens broader opportunities for postgraduate students and researchers and enhances the quality of education and research in line with the rapid developments across various fields of knowledge and academic disciplines.

This step comes as part of Ain Shams University’s support for academic development and the advancement of its postgraduate studies system, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of Ain Shams University; Prof. Amany Osama, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research; Prof. Hanan Kamel Metwally, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; and Prof. Hatem Rabie, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research. The updated regulations enhance the faculty’s ability to offer more diverse academic programs aligned with emerging disciplines and the needs of postgraduate students.

The updated regulations introduce several new academic degrees and professional and specialized diplomas, broadening the range of options available to postgraduate students and enhancing the diversity of academic and professional pathways within the faculty.

At the academic degree level, the regulations introduce a Professional Master’s Degree in Contemporary Israeli Studies and a Professional Doctorate in Contemporary Israeli Studies, adding a new academic and professional pathway to the faculty’s postgraduate studies system.

The new additions also include a number of diplomas in language, translation, historical, and cultural studies, including the Professional Diploma in Arabic Language Learning Skills for Non-Native Speakers; the Specialized Professional Translation Diploma; the Professional Diploma in French Translation; the Specialized Diploma in Modern Greek Translation; the Specialized Diploma in Italian Translation; and the Specialized Diploma in Europe and the Islamic World.

In the field of historical studies, the regulations include the Professional Diploma in Historical Studies, the Professional Diploma in the History and Civilizations of the Ancient Near East, and the Professional Diploma in Greek and Roman History and Civilization, providing more diverse pathways for specialization in history and civilizations.

The new additions also encompass Geographic Information Systems (GIS), through the Specialized Diploma in Geographic Information Systems and the General Professional Diploma in Geographic Information Systems, keeping pace with the growing use of geographic technologies and spatial information across various academic and professional fields.

In the fields of psychology and psychological services, the regulations introduce several new pathways, including the General Specialized Diploma in Psychological Services, the Specialized Diploma in Psychological Statistical Preparation in the Field of Addiction, the Specialized Diploma in Behavior Modification, the Specialized Diploma in Military Psychology, the Specialized Diploma in Criminal Psychology, the Specialized Diploma in Psychoanalysis, and the Specialized Diploma in Clinical Psychology.

The regulations also introduce a Professional Diploma in Criminology and a Professional Diploma in Social Development, further expanding the range of professional and social fields covered by the faculty’s postgraduate programs.

These updates provide Egyptian, Arab, and international students with broader opportunities to choose from a wide range of academic, professional, and specialized pathways, alongside the faculty’s existing master’s and doctoral programs in language, literature, humanities and social sciences, drama and criticism, information science, and library studies. This enables students to shape their academic pathways in accordance with their interests and academic and professional goals.

The issuance and implementation of the updated regulations reflect the Faculty of Arts at Ain Shams University’s commitment to building an advanced postgraduate studies system that goes beyond updating the regulatory framework of its programs to expanding the range of academic degrees and diplomas and introducing new disciplines that respond to scientific and professional developments, while opening broader horizons for specialization, research, and academic and professional development.
