Ain Shams University Hosts 12 Traditional Crafts Workshops as Part of “Cairo 2026” Activities
As part of the 12th African University Games “Cairo 2026,” hosted in Cairo from September 8 to 16, Ain Shams University is hosting 12 artistic workshops on traditional and heritage crafts, showcasing the rich cultural and civilizational diversity of Egypt and the African continent.
The Ministry of Culture is participating in the Games through live artistic workshops showcasing a range of Egyptian traditional and heritage crafts, including Talli embroidery, mat weaving, handmade carpets, pottery, and amigurumi dolls. The program also features a selection of products and artworks that highlight the authenticity of these crafts and the richness of Egypt’s cultural heritage.
The Ministry of Culture’s program at Ain Shams University runs from September 11 to 15 and features 12 specialized workshops on traditional and heritage crafts, providing participating delegations and students with an opportunity to discover Egyptian handicrafts firsthand and learn about the techniques used to create them.
The activities also feature participation from several African countries through a diverse collection of artworks reflecting African heritage, creating a vibrant cultural setting that brings together the creativity of African peoples and strengthens cultural exchange and communication among the continent’s youth.
The Games are being held with the participation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, headed by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture; the Ministry of Youth and Sports, headed by Mr. Gohar Nabil; the African University Sports Federation, headed by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Vice Chairman of the Higher Committee of the 12th African University Games ; and the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Kamel Mahdy, Chairman of the Games Organizing Committee.
Ain Shams University is participating in the Games through its Education and Students Sector, under the patronage of Prof. Mohamed Diaa Zain El-Abedeen, President of the University, and Prof. Rami Maher Ghali, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs. The University is keen to leverage major sporting events as a platform for strengthening cultural and civilizational exchange among students from Egyptian and African universities.
Hosting these workshops forms part of Ain Shams University’s cultural and community role and reflects its commitment to supporting traditional crafts and preserving cultural identity, while offering participating delegations at “Cairo 2026” a vivid showcase of the richness and diversity of Egyptian and African heritage.
