The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced the schedule of competitions and events for the 12th African University Games “Cairo 2026,” set to take place from September 9 to 16, 2026. The program features sports competitions and scientific activities to be hosted by several Egyptian universities and sports facilities.

Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, stressed the importance of thorough preparations for organizing the Games according to an integrated schedule, ensuring the smooth and efficient organization of all competitions and events throughout the tournament.

The Minister noted that the program features a diverse range of sports competitions alongside scientific activities, reflecting the variety of events and reinforcing the Games’ role in bringing together sports and academic engagement.

For his part, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, President of the African University Sports Federation and Vice President of the Higher Organizing Committee of the 12thAfrican University Games, stated that the schedule includes a wide range of sports competitions to be held at several universities and sports facilities throughout the Games.

He explained that the program encompasses both individual and team sports, in addition to scientific activities, providing an integrated framework for the Games in accordance with the approved schedule and designated venues.

Dr. Ahmed Kamel Mahdy, Chairman of the Games Organizing Committee, explained that the competitions will be held across several universities and sports facilities, according to a schedule running from September 9 through September 16.

He noted that the program includes squash, swimming, badminton, football, volleyball, basketball, fencing, taekwondo, tennis, wrestling, athletics, judo, table tennis, karate, and futsal.

Dr. Hesham Ahmed Ali, Tournament Director, stated that the schedule sets out the dates and venues for the various competitions and events throughout the Games, noting that competitions have been distributed among several universities and sports facilities in accordance with the approved timetable.

He added that the program also features several major events, including the opening ceremony and reception, as well as the scientific conference, workshops, sessions, and research discussions.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, stated that the competitions will begin on Wednesday, September 9. Squash, women’s football, women’s volleyball, women’s basketball, and men’s basketball will be held at the American University in Cairo (AUC) in New Cairo, while badminton, men’s football, and men’s volleyball will take place at Al Nady Club in the New Capital.

The Official Spokesperson explained that the opening ceremony will be held on September 9 at the Cairo International Stadium Cycling Track from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar added that Thursday, September 10, will feature the scientific conference, including workshops and sessions, at the British University in Egypt (BUE) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The day will also feature women’s swimming, squash, women’s football, women’s volleyball, basketball, and men’s swimming at AUC in New Cairo, in addition to badminton, men’s football, and men’s volleyball at Al Nady Club in the New Capital.

He noted that a reception for participating delegations will be held at the Cairo Opera House on September 10 from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar explained that competitions will continue Friday, September 11, with swimming at AUC in New Cairo, alongside women’s football, women’s volleyball, and basketball. Fencing, men’s football, men’s volleyball, and men’s futsal will be held at Al Nady Club in the New Capital, while taekwondo competitions will take place at the Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) Sports Hall on the 6th of October City.

He added that Saturday, September 12, will feature the scientific conference, including research discussions, at the British University in Egypt from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The day will also include women’s football, women’s volleyball, basketball, and tennis at AUC in New Cairo; fencing, men’s football, men’s volleyball, and futsal at Al Nady Club in the New Capital; taekwondo at the MUST Sports Hall in 6th of October City; and wrestling at the Ministry of Youth and Sports Hall in 6th of October City.

The Official Spokesperson noted that competitions will continue on Sunday, September 13, with basketball, women’s football, women’s volleyball, and tennis at AUC in New Cairo; athletics at the Olympic Center in Maadi; men’s football, men’s volleyball, and futsal at Al Nady Club in the New Capital; judo at the MUST Sports Hall in 6th of October City; and table tennis at the Dr. Hassan Mostafa Sports Halls Complex in 6th of October City.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar explained that Monday, September 14, will see the continuation of basketball, women’s football, women’s volleyball, athletics, men’s football, men’s volleyball, futsal, judo, and table tennis competitions at the venues previously designated in the Games schedule.

He added that competitions will continue on Tuesday, September 15, with basketball, women’s football, women’s volleyball, athletics, men’s football, men’s volleyball, and futsal, in addition to karate at the MUST Sports Hall in 6th of October City and table tennis at the Dr. Hassan Mostafa Sports Halls Complex in 6th of October City.

The Official Spokesperson noted that the competitions will conclude on Wednesday, September 16, with basketball, women’s football, women’s volleyball, athletics, men’s football, men’s volleyball, and futsal, alongside karate at the MUST Sports Hall in 6th of October City.

Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar further explained that, as part of the Games’ scientific activities, the British University in Egypt will host the scientific conference on September 10, featuring workshops and sessions, while research discussions will take place on September 12, in accordance with the designated schedule for the scientific program.

The Official Spokesperson emphasized that announcing the Games schedule aims to provide comprehensive information on the competitions and events, including their dates and venues, enabling delegations, participants, and followers to familiarize themselves with the full program throughout the eight-day event.

The Games are being held with the participation of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, headed by Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture; the Ministry of Youth and Sports, headed by Mr. Gohar Nabil; the African University Sports Federation, headed by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Vice President of the Higher Organizing Committee of the 12th African University Games; and the Egyptian University Sports Federation, under the supervision of Dr. Ahmed Kamel Mahdy, Chairman of the Games Organizing Committee.
